  1. Its a nickname for Bluefish. For their size they are more lethal than sharks. If anyone fell into a school a hungry blues it would be like swimming with piranas. They have teeth like a cat. They are eating machines. Bait fish like bunker fish will leap into the air to escape blues. Virtually nothing escapes.
  2. Got up early yesterday morning and went to Jones Beach field 6 to surf fish. With my 11ft rod I was able to cast a bottle popper just beyond the breakers. The blues were very hungry and the action lasted until my arms gave out. I kept a couple of the smaller blues for the table and the rest were released to catch another day.
  3. I had today off so I went on a party boat out of Port Washington today. I froze my ass off. The temperature wasn't too low but the wind was kicking my ass. Still it was a lot of fun. The Blacks were co-operating pretty good. The first pic was the pool fish. The one on the table was one of mine.
  4. Keep it up hacke and good luck. When your sense of smell and taste return your life will be better too.
  5. Thanks all for your kind words.
  6. Everyone remembers where they were on 9-11. I can’t forget where I was either.
  7. My son Paul and I took a spin about 17-18 miles out to Glen Cove yesterday afternoon for some catch and release snapper bluefish fun. The weather was great considering on Saturday morning we had a couple of tornados blow through.
  8. Happy Birthday Sir with many more ahead.
  9. RPI did you happen to weigh them? Nope I didn't but the larger fish was about 4 to 5 lbs.
  10. When both species are very small babies they look like normal fish but as they mature one eye migrates to the opposite side depending on the species. On either the left or right side. I’ve netted some babies about an inch long and their eyes are on one side already but surprisingly you can see right through them. They look exactly like a mature flattie. In and around New York waters Winter flounder are fished in spring from April 1st to May 30th. Summer flounder (fluke) are fished from May 1st to September 30th. If the ocean lies down somewhat I’ll be going for bluefish and striped bass this Saturday night. Otherwise I’ll wait for it to die down. The winds are forecast 15 knots and 5 foot seas. That’s a bit too snotty for me.
  11. Holy crap Janey, I looked at a geographical map of Metairie and it showed a 3ft elevation above sea level. I'm sorry for you that each big storm must be really scary after Katrina. Good luck.
  12. Be prepared and good luck.
  13. Their proper name is Summer Flounder.
  14. On a cookie sheet I spray a little pam, lay the fillets down with a little salt and pepper and a sprinkle of seasoned bread crumbs. Pour a little bit of melted butter on top. Bake in an oven at 350 for about 15 mins or until flaky. Then squeeze some fresh lemon juice on and eat. I also like them breaded and fried in oil on a fresh roll with lots of home made tartar sauce. Awesome sandwich with lettuce and tomato.
  15. I went fishing for fluke off of Fire Island this morning. I kept 2 nice fish for the table. Great weather, a beautiful day to be out on the ocean.
  16. She is a true patriot. God bless and protect her.
  17. I just finished watching the closing show. Awesome. Spectacular lights and super fireworks. The Olympic flame going out was very powerful. The Brits hit a home run.
  18. Here’s to the Brits for putting on an excellent Summer Olympics. All the venues were beautiful and elegant. The workers did an excellent job too. Bloody good job Londoners and all.
  19. My sincere best wishes are with you both
  20. HXTR how can you make comparisons of athletes from different sports to begin with? Swimming vs. Basketball? Phelps won his medals by intensive training and dedication. You can’t compare today’s technologies to the pasts. It is what it is. World records will continue to be broken with dedicated athletes such as Phelps. He deserves our respect, not a ho-hum that you gave him.
  21. Tball you're crazy going off shore in a 20 footer. I'm wondering how many were with you on that trip. All you needed was a Tstorm to happen and Tball and pals would have been fish food. I've done tuna fishing out there.Cell phones don't work that far out. You guys were lucky.
  22. Very cool Cobra, I thought near the end of the video you were about to kick up some gravel at the wife. Lol.
