Nice stuff Killroy and certainly well equipped for hunting.

I have a few hunting type guns with the laminate type stock and full well realize that the it is the best way to go, far superior to Walnut in so many ways particularly accuracy.

But being old school I just can't give up on a nice grained and finished Walnut stock. I just like the look of finished Walnut.

The following Browning Citori was bought for me by Don Haldeman who won the Gold Medal in trap shooting at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Don and I worked together at the Budd Co. and I did some gratis welding work for him. In return he surprised me with the gun as a gift for the work I had done.

I love Guns, Wish I had more time I'd post some of my huge 7 gun collection in my vast Climate controlled gun locker.   I do have some, but after looking at yours Ill just go hunting with mine and daydream about your all weapons, especially deejay.   I would never live in the UK I guess, no gun, no protection from crooked goverment, I hope someone starts to Straighten out Americas Communist Goverment soon with those guns of freedom.   Praying for Revolution !                Thanks Shamu for the tour ! cool stuff

It is a good practice to have a photo record of each of your guns even if for insurance purposes only. Should you ever be in a situation where you need to claim a loss haing a photo record can ease the process.

I have both photos and an Excel file on all my guns. My Excel sheet is not as it should be because I only have the basic description for each gun. I should have included the purchase date and cost. I am too far behind now to worry about it.

That "first gun ever" is the Ruger Single Six, in the red bag is a cylinder for shooting the .22 magnum rimfire. It was also my first pistol.

A little history, it had some questionable safety issues and Ruger offered free alterations. I sent mine in and had the transfer bar work done. Worked like crap. I took out the transfer bar and went back to original configuration. I think all newer models already have the transfer bar installed. It's a small piece of metal that you can see slide up over the firing pin when cocking the hammer.

Ruger still offers a free fix if wanted....... I would not.

FYI-Concealed Carry

A friend sent this to me I also go to the V.A. and they do ask these questions

USAPLISKEN >XI<

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners...Thanks

From a Vietnam Vet and retired  Police Officer:

I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out

something  very interesting that I would like to pass along.  While going

through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the

exam, three questions:

1. Did I feel stressed?

2. Did I feel threatened?

3. Did I feel like doing harm to  someone?

The nurse then informed me, that if I had answered yes to any of the

questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have

gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland

Security.  Looks like they are going after the vets first.

Other gun people like retired law enforcement will probably be next.  Then

when they go after the civilians, what argument will  they have?  Be

forewarned and be aware.

The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists.  Whether you are  gun owner veteran or not, you've been warned. If you

know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them.  Be very cautious about what you say and to whom.

That sucks, if true they are generalizing every vet just because they might feel stressed?

Heck, in this economy most of us are stressed, vet or not. But if a Vet gets stressed he loses his right to carry.

So far I have not used any Veterans benefits so I have not encountered this matter........... luckily.

I do have pictures of them just not digital copies, I guess I should clarify that.

I have hard copies in a safety deposit box with copies of recipts ;)

Which now that i get to thinking about it would probably be better kept at home or atleast a seperate set of copies.

Thanks for the info Hagar - that's cool our first pistols were the same.     I didn't know there were any safety issues and haven't shot my big toe off yet so I'm leaving it just the way it is.

Not to change the subject but thought this might interest some of you.....  The Knights of Columbus here is having a raffle and I can't see anywhere that you have to live in Wyoming to enter.   It's a "Gun a Week" raffle, they draw for a different gun every week for 52 weeks and the tickets are

50 bucks.   Here's a link with the list of guns and a way to enter if you're interested.

The safety issue is very minor and, IMHO, overkill.

The safety mod is so you can carry the gun with all cylinders loaded and not worry about it firing if you drop or bang it in some way.

With revolvers it is a good practice to leave one chamber empty and carry the gun with the hammer located over the empty cylinder. If you drop or bang it there is no bullet under the hammer to go off accidentally. Only drawback is you have one less round in your cylinder. For most the safety outweighs one less round, particularly if it is not carried for self defense.

I believe almost all new revolvers have incorporated some type of safety system so they can be safely carried with all cylinders loaded. But I am old school, all my revolvers including those for self defense are carried with the hammer on an empty chamber.

Drooling over the Luger, would like to get a original wartime vintage Luger someday.

I ran a box of 9mm through the Luger a couple of years ago Hagar.  It is quite accurate but surprisingly LOUD and has a good bit of muzzle flip.  Completely different experience compared to my 9mm Beretta.  It has 2 dates stamped on it.  1918 is the original date, then 1920 below it.  It was apparently confiscated after WW1 under the Treaty Of Versailles, then re-issued in 1920 to the German police.  I have the original police holster that it was re-issued with.  The holster might be worth more than the gun because the gun has been re-blued according to the gunsmith I showed it to (probably before re-issue in 1920).

The holster is NOT worth more than the gun, no way.

Even with the reconditioning I suspect the value of the gun could approach or exceed $3,000.00.

http://www.gunbroker.com/

Enter Luger in Search and look at the listings. I tried linking direct to the page but it expires in this type format.

That gunsmith might be setting you up for his own interests.

I did not look at anything in detail but I think your gun has very good value. I also know very little about Lugers, where they were manufactured also effects value. The WW II Lugers having Nazi symbols also impacts value.

I do know I would like to get one someday.
