Likewise Gaberial.

June Carter Cash was from Hilstons, VA, where I live and work at a newspaper. She and Johnny would come in unannounced and perform for free at the family homestead, called the Carter Fold, where they have an outdoor theater. One year they stopped at the newspaper so we could take updated photos of them and we had a nice chat - just outstanding people.

I told Johnny my favorite album was Ballads of the Old West but that I had worn it out and couldn't find another. He promised to send me a copy from his personnel collection, and he did.

Fond memories.

Thanks Gabriel, I have never heard that one. I am not one for country music, but Johnny had a different tone about him. He wasn't really country. What I remember the most are his ballads. They usually had a lot of meaning, like this one.

As I listen to it I was trying to figure out what side he was singing about. You could actually play this for either side of the war. Whether one is for the war or againest it. My thought anyway.

He will be missed.

if you want to see his video it pretty well sums up what he is singing about- his life

sorry for the double post of hurt. but I feel anyone that has not seen the actual video do so. it is very heartfelt, and you can see his pain in his body language. This was written in the closing years of his life, and I feel he knew his battle with diabeties would be coming to an end soon. rip jonny cash September 12 2003
