FOLLOW-UP: Pretty certain the problem is on my side. Rather, on my ISPs. Another player from the same region (PNW) uses Comcast and he has been having similar problems. I was doing "tracert 162.248.95.178 >> text.txt" in game when I was starting to lag and found that many times in the middle of the routes I was getting time outs. They seemed to all be happening Comcast jumps so I'll get with my ISP and talk to them. Hopefully, they fix this if they are getting congested on their backbone routers or something.

For the past week, CIs that last a minute or two have been happening very frequently. At least once or twice every round and they can last minutes. I know others have been experiencing similar problems (at least they say they are). I've noticed that during these times my ping is fluctuating, but not always by a lot. Sometimes, it floats in the mid 100s, sometimes it will spike much higher. It is not consistent and I have felt the CIs when my ping was low 100s like it normally is (usually 105 - 110). I can record some of these to prove they are happening because I get a lot of flak when I whine about them - I know it is funny to see me struggle. I disconnected my mike for a until this stuff clears up so that no one has to hear about it. Imagine how frustrating it is for me to be playing well, running to their spawn, and then continuously dying because it feels like you are teleporting around and stuff is not where it is supposed to be. I have even started sniping a few maps because I cannot run-and-gun with these issues. I know a few admins have seen me lagging out visibly in game. I'll continue to look at my own home network but none of my kids seem to be experiencing any problems at the same time I am. Assuming the others are not bull-shitting, it seems to be happening to more than just me.

After repeatedly getting my killstreaks stolen, despite having the Hacker perk, I think I have pinned down what is wrong. 1.) If you are on a slanted surface, inside of someone else's bubble (trying to thaw), and die. Somehow you can lose the kill streak even if you have Hacker. 2.) If you change your loadout while you are frozen (switch from Hacker to Hardline for example) - and haven't respawned - it seems you can still lose the killstreak during this time. This happened twice today. *edited grammar and punctuation

Thanks for the input. I only play on XI servers from my favorites list. However, I did have a few old IPs from XI (paintball server or something). Perhaps I clicked on one of those by accident or something. Either way, I removed everything but the couple of XI servers I play. I will mention it if I ever see the errors again. Thanks loader, making a backup is a good idea. Easier than searching the website each time something goes wrong.

I had this error when trying to logon to the freeze tag servers today. I have never seen anything like that. I cancelled all the prompts that came up and restarted my game. I have not see that error since but was wondering if anyone else has ever seen anything like that? There were a couple of prompts before this one but I did not get a screen capture of them. If I see it again I will. I haven't done anything unusual lately but I have had a lot of CIs the past week or two. Thanks.

Wherever the maps are stored absolutely refuses to let me download mp_rd_ex. I have been trying the entire time the map has been playing and just get the 10k / sec download nothing that even if you let finish will just crash the game. I also see 3 other 999s when I check 'Server Info' which tells me I am not the only struggling to download this map. EDIT: Yes, I understand how to use the command line /reconnect to try to restart the download.

Hi Roxy & PNG! and all others who've given me grief about uploading my pic. I finally found the thread. So here is a quick pic of me and youngest daughter (my 'oops' baby girl - she is 5 and my other kids are much older).

The server has been crashing a lot lately. When it happens a few times in a row (like the past couple of days) we keep playing the same maps over and over. Is there anyway to start the rotation at the point of the crash instead of starting over completely?

I like it now there is a another perk to block it. Some still do not realize this yet. Maybe the drama will calm down as more people know. Until Hacker blocked Heist it seemed over powered. It is better now there is a block. Personally I think its funny when people are running to steal a perk on me. They will often do that to their detriment. Also it makes you think about using the kill streak sooner - which I like and I think it makes the game better. People no longer try to save a tactical nuke until the end of the round - imagine getting one of those stolen. But face it, most of the time people are just stealing our stupid RCs or Defrosters. It is not that big of a deal. Cuss them out and laugh about it. I'll give this new mod one thing, it has made me really look at each perk I'm using and even change them based on which map we are on or how many people are playing (or sometimes who is on). The meta changes depending on these factors and I think that is cool. P.S. I can't help it since we're talking about this stuff, FUCK 40 second EMP blindness!

I have been having terrible CIs / Lag the past 3 or 4 days on the MW2 server. I realize everyone in game is bitching about it but it seems more severe in my case than some. Many engagements temporarily freeze and it is getting frustrating. I am pretty sure its not my computer's problem as I have a brand new Nvidia 2060 super graphics card and can max out 250fps without ever going below that. I am interested if anyone else on the West Coast is having these problems. I am up by Seattle. Its not just an occasional CI that I can deal with it is game breaking pauses of seconds while I play. Anyone else been playing from my region having these issues that seem this severe?

My opinion after coming back to COD4 after more than 5 years and only having a few weeks with what is now the old mod - everything feels weak in the newest mod. Every gun even the machine guns. I thought Sharpe had a good point above. Why not share some data on what gun damage is like? We can only really go off 'feelings' and know that it takes 2, 3, or more bullets to kill anyone. What should it be? Should the weapons kill you if it hits the torso? Does the gun matter? Without any data we can only give you these rough feelings.

That did it - thanks everyone for the help. Just to close the loop on this: the sticky on the forum tells you to copy that iw3mp.exe file (that is in a link) to your Call of Duty 4 directory. If you reinstall or use Steams 'Check Integrity', you must copy it again. I was trying to many things at the same time. Thanks again

Thanks for responding. SgT. Chris I think I tried that route which amounted to putting the iw3mp.exe file in the steam directory for cod4 -- did not work. YACCster -- I'm not sure what you mean or how to do that. When you reinstall from steam it does not give you any options like that (to not install punkbuster). I can delete the folder PB under Call of Duty 4 but that does not work either. BUDMAN - That got me past the Steam issues. Now I get a "Server is a different version 1.7" when I try toi connect to one of the COD4 IPs.

It has been so long I cannot even figure out how to get this game to run again... Crazy the game is this old now. If I try to run multiplayer from steam it says "unable to initialize punkbuster". I've tried reinstalling and I've tried to download the iw3mp.exe file from the sticky on this forum and I still get the same error if I try to run multiplayer cod4. I'm not sure what else to try now. Someone give me a hint or some shit so I can get back on these servers and make some people cry. Thank you

I had to respond tis one... I freaking loved the translocator! I would (and still will) absolutely destroy EVERYONE using it. A handful of us from a defunct UT freeze tag clan called PSI all joined XI around the same time - and a couple of us were masters of using the trans as a weapon. In those freeze tag mods of UT, you could telefrag someone and it would yell 'SCORE!' and actually take away one point from the victim and give you two points. As you can imagine it caused many tears (even more than knifing in COD). Some other freeze tag mods allowed you to telethaw. However, it made for a lot of stalemate games. It was hard to pin the entire other team down in the time limit. Either way I had to comment on the damn trans. I miss it. To me, using the trans made the game feel like it added another dimension. However, it will severely punish those with bad in-game spatial awareness. If you ever put that in another current game I can see myself playing and gaming too much again...

My condolences to you and your family skullDi99er. Cobra was a great guy and it was fun as fucking hell playing COD with him all those years. RIP buddy. I can imagine him saying "fucking bs" right now!

There is a big difference between what some admins will say is off-limits / glitch areas on the same maps. Could we get a definite ruling on some of them? Example: forlorn 3rd floor balcony where you have to jump on the weird light to jump on stairs that are blocked off. Another is the small map where you can corner jump onto the barn on top of one of the spawn points. It makes a large gameplay difference depending on if that area is used or not. I just want to know if there is a rule so that I can base my play on that map around it. Boomboom is usually pretty restrictive whereas some other admins allow it. If the standard is - whatever the admin says - then great, at least I will know to ask before the start of each map every single time.

If you are looking for feedback: I seem to be getting the same number of CIs as the other mod (usually a couple of small ones every other round with an occasional 1 second CI).
