  1. Lots of hoopin and hollerin going on in my neighborhood right now. Congrats Giants, you earned it, and congratulations to Kansas City for making it a great series.
  2. Las Vegas Hooters St Louis Hooters San Francisco Hooters
  3. Happy birthday Painsponge. From your pictures I don't think you look a day over 70.
  4. If it's not too many pictures you might be able to find one of those places that transfer pictures and video from old media like VHS and Beta that will have the tools to get the pictures off of the floppy's for you. Granted it won't be free like doing it yourself, but better than nothing. In my town the local photography store still does 35mm developing and old format transfers.
  5. The smog in California has gotten much better over the last 20 years. I've been here since 1977 and it was horrible until the mid 90's. Emission controls on the millions of cars we have made the biggest difference. What little smog we have left blows over to Nevada. We do still have a lot of forest fires and during the peak seasons the smoke in the air is still really bad all over the state. In the winter time when we have the least amount of air movement they have red alert days when you are not allowed to burn fires in the fire place, even if the temps get really cold.
  6. These water ionizers and purification systems started out 20 years ago as a multi-tiered sales scam. Most of us have known somebody or been approached by an acquaintence promising great wealth and financial independence by "networking" with hundreds of people selling products such as Amway or Kirby vacuum cleaners. You don't actually have to sell the products but simply sign up other people to sell their products, and then you make a cut of everything they sell. They always end up being a big pyramid scheme and nobody ever makes what was promised, or they end up losing a ton of money. I have been been an avid salt water aquarium hobbiest for a long time, and if you want to talk about people who are obsessed about water quality, try chatting with people in this hobby. Ionized, de-ionized, reverse osmosis, they do it all. Everybody claims that their water systems are the best and charge an arm and a leg for their products. My aquarium has above average growth of fish and corals, and I use good old tap water that's completely unfiltered and I only dechlorinate it. I've tried many of the filtration sytems and I always wind up going back to tap water. It has just the right balance of minerals and nutrients my critters need to thrive, and if it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for me and my family to drink and cook with. Here is a good article on the ionized water systems and why they should be avoided. http://www.alkalinewaterionizers.org/consumer-reports-why-are-kangen-water-ionizers-so-expensive/
  7. What a waste of a college education.
  8. Labob I don't put sports figures into the hero category at all. Their actions are legendary, but not heroic. Sgt York was most definitely a hero, but not by choice. In-fact he tried to avoid going to war on religious grounds but was forced to go any way. The right set of circumstances can turn any person into a hero or heroine just as circumstances did for Sgt York and Sgt Vickers. Had Sgt York's unit not run into those Germans at just the right time, we would never had heard of him, and had the shooter in Canada been killed by somebody else in Canada, we would probably be praising them right now. What constitutes a hero all depends on one's perspective of the world. Let's not forget that Osama Bin Laden was a hero to tens of millions of Muslims around the world for committing mass murder on innocent civilians.
  9. Have a wonderful birthday Dolphin.
  10. People can argue on whether or not Vickers is a hero for his actions taking down the shooter, but in my mind he is a hero without a doubt. In this video they give a very detailed account of how he did it. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=46a_1414248162 He was on the other side of a marble pillar just inches from the shooter, then he dove around the pillar and as he was falling to the ground emptied his gun at the shooter and killed him. That is bad ass. Yes he did his job, just as a Secret Service agent would jump in front the president and take a bullet for him. But my feeling is that part of the job for these men is to take heroic measures in the performance of their jobs, and Vickers did just that in fine fashion. Vickers grabbed a gun and eliminated the threat in a means that would rival the best Hollywood movie with no regard toward his personal safety. Anybody that is willing to sacrifice their own life trying to save others, regardless if it's a cop, or a fireman, a soldier or a Sgt of Arms is a hero in my book.
  11. Yeah I saw that on the news last night. Dogs always miss an owner so much when they never come home. The pictures of dogs laying by the coffins of fallen soldiers or officers always gets me.
  12. I have to admit I've never seen a lab retrieve a goose before other than a snow goose. Did she have to drag it by the neck or could she actually carry it? I have a 48 pound yellow lab I am thinking about getting trained. She's small and compact but has the strongest retriever drive I've ever seen in a lab. I hate to waste it on tennis balls.
  13. Wow, probably the best cartoon I've ever seen.
  14. RIP Cpl Cirillo, Canada owes you their gratitude. Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, reservist from Hamilton, killed in Ottawa shooting Ottawa police announced at a press conference Wednesday that the soldier shot while guarding the National War Memorial had died. "Our thoughts are with the member and the members of his family at this time," said RCMP Assistant Commissioner Gilles Michaud at the press conference.
  15. DJ, it was just announced that both shooters were Canadians who converted to Islam. Even though the shooters were not immigrants both undoubtedly attended mosques in that area and were more than likely radicalized by what they heard there and on the web. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/canada-probes-michael-zehaf-bibeau-as-possible-suspect-in-ottawa-shooting-source/ar-BBaBLKK
  16. My thoughts are with you Canada. Let's hope they can nip this in the bud before it gets worse. Nothing brings a country together more than being attacked from within by people you invited to live there.
  17. It could be worse, we could live in Europe.
  18. Happy birthday Dean. Make it a great one.
  19. So you don't have an auto back-up to do a system restore? Have you checked? Check it out and see when the last restore point was, you may be able to get it all back to where it was.
  20. Seems fitting. I think Beers enjoys being bottom bitch. It's kind of his thing.
  21. I don't know Bart, I think those were men.
  22. All of it is sadly true.
  23. Are they all hanging on your ceiling next to the Batman poster?
  24. Surprisingly it hasn't. Yes the daily traffic gets old but every time I hear a vintage plane come in I run outside like a little kid at Christmas.
