I hear this a lot from members and non-members and wonder if it's been discussed by the admin team. I've always preferred COD4 over COD5 because of its more vibrant colors and graphics engine. It's not as washed out as COD5 and just seems more realistic. But I moved to COD5 because I just couldn't keep up with the speed of the game on the accelerated Ace Mod server. Are there others who would like to see an Ace Mod in COD4 running at regular speed? Have we tried this previously?

Thank you Loader for your guide to reinstalling COD2 on a Windows 8.1 machine. Worked perfectly (I did not install DirectX9; the game runs fine with DX11.) Only thing I'm missing is the key to run in the game; can't remember what that was. Otherwise, up and running on a new Alienware with COD2, 4 and 5 and all God's children are happy.

It was as simple as plugging in a mike. That fixed it. Amazing...

I am certain I installed and updated PB correctly. Googling it finds lots of folks having problems running COD4 in Win 8.1 but I did come across something that jogged my memory of trying to get it working when Win7 came out, involving stereo mix. I'll try this on my lunch hour: "If you are playing Call of Duty 4 on Windows 8, and you encountered following error : iw3mp.exe has stopped working , this is how you can fix it. First, go to Control Panel, Sound, and then click on recording tab. When in recording tab, right click and mark "show disabled devices". There you should see "stereo mix" , just enable it and go play Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare. The fix in this post works 100%, but not all systems are the same. Another trick is to plug in your headphones in the headphone jack. After that you can unplug them when the game starts."

The legacy updater for COD4 ran just fine as it did for COD5 and I checked to see that COD4 is listed in the PB user folder and it is, along with COD5. So I don't think that's the problem. By the way, I downloaded all of the patches from the clan download directory except the 1.6-1.7 patch which is an RAR and I didn't want to screw with that so I grabbed the .exe elsewhere. But the game appears to be properly patched.

Installed, patched, did the PB legacy updater but when launching COD4 multiplayer (single player works fine) I get the startup logo and immediately get the iw3mp.exe stopped working error. I've tried various compatibility modes and running as administrator with no luck. I don't think it's a PB issue because the game won't launch at all, and PB shouldn't come into play until after I'm on a server. During the install when it asked if I wanted to install PB, I said no, because I had just installed COD5 and figured that also installed PB on my system. I ran the PB legacy updater for COD5 and it works just fine. Do I need to reinstall COS4 and then during the reinstall, tell it to also install PB again? Or is this some other problem. Anybody got COD4 up and running on Win 8.1? Thanks...

There are 7 WaW patches that appear to take the game progressively to version 1.7 but I don't see an "ultimate patch" for that game. Likewise, COD4 has seven patches to take it to 1.7.

So you started reading this thinking I wrote it such a guide? Nope, I'm still looking for it. Labob filled me in on COD2, but, is there something, somewhere, that tells you all you need to know about loading these games on a new system, including: - Are there any specific issues one should be aware of in reinstalling each of these games on a Windows 8.1 system? - How do I copy/transfer my game history for each of these games, or, must I start over with each of them? - Where do I find all of the game updates; is there a single update for any/each of them that includes all the previous updates? - Can I copy all of my maps over so I don't have to download them all over again; where are they for each game? - What else should I know? Bottom line: has anyone written this manual? If not, could someone?

Don't watch any network news. I do watch like O'Reilly for commentary because I think Charles Krauthammer is brilliant but that's about it.

Greasy: I take it you spend most of your time in COD4 where all the pussies play. Get your arse into COD5 MW where the real men play. Here, we hunt and stalk and snipe and go hand-to-hand on occasion. Here, it's real - we don't run around at impossible speeds. Come get some!!!

Thanks. But I'm NOT looking forward to installing COD2, COD4 and COD5. I've got to research all over again, all of the patches, etc., and make sure I properly load the games and, properly bring my data over so I don't lose history. And as I recall, there are some tricks to loading COD2 which is not designed to run on anything past XP. Then again, maybe we've some articles stickied somewhere on how to do all of this????

I suppose Rugger, if he chose, could attempt to hand off the clan management but the problem with starting something that has become this successful is that you're pretty much stuck with it. Seriously, who would be willing to commit to the time and effort it takes? It's damn near a full-time job. And you don't get paid for it. And, it takes special skills managing in effect what is a business here. Perish the thought of Rugger taking a walk. If that happened, I'd say XI would be toast. In short order, it would simply fall apart.
