  1. Congrats on yet another successful orbit around the Sun, Gump!
  2. Just got it yesterday. Astronomer_XI
  3. Agreed. I play both, but I play the nam one twice as often. There are far more >XI< folks playing on 'nam than the other, and most of the 'nam folks are from this side of the pond.
  4. BF3 and expansion pack are 50% off on Origin until the 19th

  5. BF3 and expansion pack are 50% off on Origin until the 19th

  6. Hi folks, Origin has BF3 for sale at $29.99. The expansion pack is also on sale for $7.99. This deal is good until the 19th. M y download is 31% done. It's also a 15Gb download. I believe th3ere is an option to have physical media sent instead of downloading. I saw that on the website but not on the Origin application.
  7. I call shenanigans. BIG time. If those posts are from a lawyer, I'll eat the week-old chicken carcass in the refrigerator. Poor (lousy, actually) grammar, public forum posting on matters involving a client, gmail address...Rick James, Jason, whomever...grow up. Sorry, I've seen better logic, grammar, and believability in emails from Nigerian scammers. I've corresponded with Nigerian scammers; Nigerian scammers are friends of mine; and you Rick James, are no Nigerian scammer (with apologies to Senator Lloyd Bentsen). Either it's RJ or someone else is out to stir the pot for shits and giggles. Regardless, ignore the trolls. The more you feed 'em, the more they keep coming back. Sorry for feeding this one, but I couldn't let this nonsense pass without comment. It takes all kinds to make a planet...
  8. I've settled on this one too as it's simple, has a small hard drive footprint, and just gets the job done. I use it on 64-bit Windows 7.
  9. How about this one? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311361/ <running and ducking>
  10. Many years ago int he early 1990's, when I worked at a university computer center, I had a user who said that her 5 1/4" floppy disks worked once, but any time thereafter, they would not read. She brought her PC to the shop and we replaced the drive, tested it, and all was fine. She called in furious a couple of days later saying that the problem was not fixed and that she demanded that someone come over and take a look. When we went to her office, there was a small refrigerator by her desk. Holding the floppies to the fridge was - you guessed it - a magnet. Common sense can not be conferred by a series of letters after your name. You either have it, or you don't.
  11. Good news! Been in your boat, and I know what it feels like to get the good news after being off for a number of months.
  12. Wayyy back in the MOH days, over ten years ago, I began to play online with a buddy and two of his friends, both of whom I've since been fortunate to also call my friends (and who are are also >XI< members). We had to pick nicknames for ourselves, and I chose Astronomer. I'm a passionate skywatcher. That's my main telescope in my avatar, a custom built reflector with a 13.1" primary mirror. I own 4 other telescopes, a bushel of eye-pieces, and at least 10 sky atlases plus software. A night under dark skies observing deep-space objects is medicine for my soul. The beauty of what's up there in all directions and in stunning variety can't be expressed adequately in words. During the day I love to observe the sun in both my special-purpose solar telescope and a regular telescope with a white-light filter.
  13. Hmmmm...I try and view this and I get this error: [#10171] You do not have permission to view this attachment. I changed my password last week and I can now see the >XI< section in the forums, so my login is fine. Any ideas?
  14. Hi folks, Is Paypal our only method of donating? I haven't had a Paypal account in years as I don't trust them. Anyway, if this is our only way to donate, how do folks here use it? I'd rather not give them my bank account or VISA information. Let me know as I'd like to start adding to the kitty on a regular basis.
  15. Thanks for the update update! Appreciate the time to change the rotation.
  16. Spent 4 hours total driving to/from Toronto, and 7 hours in meetings on the future direction of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Things are looking up! The shitstorm I started 3 years ago is paying dividends.

  17. Open Office has been superceded by Libre Office: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ Open Office is essentially mortally wounded. The developers and major backers have migrated to the Libre Office fork. A new version was recently released that fixed a huge # of bugs, added more features, and greatly increased the interoperability with Microsoft Office. Most Linux distros include LO now, and is the recommended version for Windows etc.
  18. So far so good. No damage or outages from the flares. The earth's magnetic field has done a good job in keeping the worst of it away from causing effects down here. Most modern satellites use hardened electronics and/or the satellites themselves can go into "safe" mode. there's good up-to-date info at www.spaceweather.com
  19. Yeahhhh... I've received some oddball X-fire text chats from them . Completely one-sided as I don't respond.
  20. Awesome! I saw Iron Maiden in 1985 and '86, and I met Alice Cooper around the same time when I was working at a hotel part time while going to school. Twisted Sister opened for Maiden at one of the shows, and some young rockers called "Guns and Roses" opened the other show. A year or two later I got to chat with Duff McKagen for a half hour and got free tickets to the show when they came back into town as the headliners. Can't wait to hear what you think of the upcoming show!
  21. Steadied, meaning that you don't have to hold your breath to stop the rifle from swaying with the scope up. In this mode, that swaying is turned off allowing for a greater likelihood of a kill. The MW server is "run and gun", so realism's not as critical. I'm not opposed to it as I tend to jump on that server for a few maps when I need a game fix and don't feel like a deep round of Freeze-tag.
  22. Server was 8.12.17.103:28960 - Call of Duty World at War Server in United States
  23. Hi Sonovabich, It all started at about 11:00 PM. If there's a way in X-fire to see what time a message was sent I can nail the precise time as I sent my note to Blackcat in the middle of the event. The server was the COD WAW Vietnam Freezetag server. I can't recall which map we were in, but I'll ping a couple of other folks who were there and see if they can remember.
  24. Hi Chile, Up until last night I've had no problems with him, so it's not as if there's anything we have to work out. At the end of it, he's yelling a racist joke, using the "n" word generously, and trying to goad me by calling me a "fag". It was a full-on meltdown. He wisely deleted a couple of posts that he made to this thread last night that just added fuel to the fire. I'm not interested in any sort of drama - this is just a game and a pass-time, >XI<'s a fun place where me and some old friends came to hang out with like-minded adults. Douchbaggery such as was displayed by JCSnipe - using an ethnicity and a sexual orientation as a pejorative over an open microphone (there was at least one kid online) - cannot be condoned nor forgiven. I X-fired BlackCat immediately after the racist joke last evening, and others on the other team which she was on also alerted her in-game. Several of us told him repeatedly that his comments violated the >XI< code of conduct, but I suspect he didn't hear us over his yelling or he chose to ignore us. As I said, I'll leave it in the hands of the Admin team to deal with this as they see fit. Regards, - Astronomer
