Run all sticks of ram in minimum amount for a bit to see if any of them lock up. Lots of times with bad ram.. you have to hit that bad spot in the ram then it locks up. Other bad ram the system wont even recognize. As for getting new ram... i would love to make sure it is ram before going out spending money.. but if you can take the memory back I would be all for it. I will wait and lets others make further suggestions.

markoff have you tried to take the case off and put a house fan close and blast air into it. That will help determine if a heat problem. The more air the better chance to cool it down IF over heating. Also look at the event logs, right click Computer, then select Manage.... under System Tools expand Event Log and look for Red lines and see if you see anything. This can be a heat thing or a driver thing or components like Memory and video card. What do you have to do to make it lock up? Just turning it on or do you have to play a game? How much memory do you have. Reason why I ask it will be worth pulling out all memory and testing it by running on minimum memory, 1 or 2 sticks and seeing if the problem still exists. Have you updated any drivers? Video or other? So please start out with the house fan.... and check event logs for errors. Since a hardware lockup you wont get a dump file to analyze unless a blue screen lockup that wont help. Pull memory if still locking up and test minimum. All this will better determine what the problem is. Lets us know and then we can decide what size a hammer you will need to beat that thing to small pieces.

at BOOT the system does not see the memory so 32 64 128 whatever will not matter. What makes anyone think that matters. The system has no idea nor care what bit you os is if you cant get past the bios. humm.... You can try reseting the bios dean but it wont fix it but dont be testing each stick and stuff. You have tested that enough to know it is not the memory. So make the phone call for the new bios. we do that first.. .then move forward.

ok dean what Ause said they would not help because of the cpu. We need to call them again as the bios file they have on the web site is not correct. So let me see what time I get home and we can call again. What file format was the file we found... not a .rom like we need. If you want to try and call Ause and reopen our ticket that might help. Look up the number again and see if you can get them to help. Just explain this to them the following.... I have 8 gb of memory but my system only sees 4gb. All memory is the same type. Remember they would not help due to the incorrect cpu as the MOBO did not support that chip. Now you have a correct one you still need to update the bios. The BIOS is old and the file on their web sites is not a .rom file. I forgot the file type it was but it was wrong. That should fix the issues or the mobo has a flaw and they best fix it. "FYI the .rom is Read Only Memory and hold the information even when you shut off your system. It is the initial programs that ties all the hardware together and allows your system to function.
