Carepackage Thieves
Sammy replied to CobraBites's topic in Call of Duty 4's Call Of Duty 4 Discussion
Most streak weapons have counter measures of some kind. A couple dont. The RC has been discussed to death already. As for care packages, the team logo on the sides is all you need to know whether or not it is friendly and such mistakes should not happen. Bad admins is an old issue and not a reason for removing tools from all of them. IW did that, Trey is doing it with BO2, and look where we are in the series. Back when BO came out I had to laugh at all the console/mw2 matchmaking crybabies who now had to behave themselves or they would be kicked. Often they admit that yes they broke a rule but their defense is that it shouldnt be a rule in the first place. Or that there shouldnt be any rules at all. Boo hoo. -

It depends on how you play the game. If everyone did nothing but run around and spam 3x nades with sonic boom it wouldnt be very fun either. But in this case any discussion should be easy. Did the player who took it even try to ask first? If he did but nobody said boo about it then ok. But if he didnt, or the owner said no and the guy took it anyways, then that is a rules infraction and should be handled appropriately. My own pov is to not worry about designing around douchbags. That is left to the admins, as it should be, and they should be given the tools to deal with such people. -

whats your screen resolution? 640x480 (4:3) ratios wont work but 1440x900 (16:9) should format it correctly. In your graphic options. -

Do you have a 4:3 screen ratio? Change it to widescreen. The problem was that there was too much stuff to work on 4:3 screens, which among other things is a reason why the newer mod went back to the original style with buttons. -
A single flash isnt a problem. But I always play with some good ambient lighting also. More often than not its repetitive flashes that does it. Back in the day CRT monitors were horrible and caused problems. Also for example the 24 fps rotating light saber thing that Grievous does makes me uncomfortable... for those that know that character.

Actually, like others I am an epileptic. Been along time since I had a seizure and I am careful around TV's and video games. Also set things up to deal with eye strain etc and dont play 6 hours straight. But these days movie theaters are out of the question. We are supposed to avoid all the whizbang 3D movies also even at home. The lightening was pretty intense and people like myself probably would have to take a little extra care. When I get some time I will look forward to playing it.

Add to above: If an admin thinks a player is being really annoying he can always do this and let the fun begin. -

Taking something that is fun out of the game is not a solution. It penalizes everybody because of a few dumb asses. Bad manners can ruin any game. As for only you or enemies that defeats part of the purpose. It should allow friends to take the package if for some reason you cannot. Think of it this way. Your team is down 1-15 and your standing next an unclaimed friendly RC-XD package where the owner is frozen. If you could get it to unfreeze many of your teammates that alone would make friendlies taking packages worth it. -

A techie explanation follows... No it doesnt bounce in this case. Game limitation. It is possible to convert something like that to a physics model which is done for exploding cars and barrels that shoot up etc. But once done it is impossible to get its actual location. So the trigger radiuses needed for knowing that you are actually standing next to it couldnt be put there. Tried various ways around that including making a manually controlled bounding box but it was too expensive in terms of computational power and not %100 reliable to actually find the ground or obstructions. MW2/3/BO did it by introducing a 'workaround' for lack of a better word. They didnt change how physics objects work in the game engine. Instead it seems the maps themselves have a built-in invisible box that is the same kind of thing used to surround cars which cannot be created at runtime. Only cloned. The care package model and trigger radius follows it. A brush model for the mappers out there. Anyways, are you suggesting friendlies shouldnt magically see or be affected by the smoke while the enemy is? But I agree this is a teamwork problem nothing more. Over the years some servers I have played the teams talk to and work together constantly. Quite a different experience than those that dont. -

Working on reenabling the acp control panel for the next update. Admins that have been given access in the server configs will be able to apply various punishments. A few problems to work out tho if for example the player is suicided when in the minigunner or predator etc. That kind of ability should be limited however to confirmed cases of bad behavior and not just someone complaining about another player. -

You cant code good behavior and good admins are a must to deal with lame-ass players. One of the reasons BO2 is probably going to fail badly. -
Aww whats wrong with a litlte thunder.

You sound like Dos Equis and the most interesting man in the world. "I dont always use sniper rifles, but when I do I prefer the wa2000" But in any case there is no 'better'. Only which one best suits your playing style. One caviat is that the low power on the M21 (even without SP) isnt so much of a problem in HC servers.

Beta Vs. Chicago Server...
Sammy replied to The Flush's topic in Call of Duty 4's Call Of Duty 4 Discussion
Changed the tacnuke in addition to all the other stuff coming up. First it will not be a loadout option and available to everybody as a 4th streak at 20 kills. I agree since its pretty hard to get its unfair to require it in the loadout. 20 is still too low imho but it will depend on what the general feedback is from the various servers using the mod. -
It should be in the ingame console window... I think... but maybe I am wrong about that. But if not then I would need the server logs. I already sent a PM about that but being the weekend people have much better things to do than administer game servers. I did occationally get these errors a long time ago but it had to do with having too many visual debug lines at one time when running with developer options on. A few servers are testing out the mod but this one is certainly the biggest so its obviously pushing things harder.
-
I know what the problem is but its a matter of finding out where it is happening. Could be a memory leak and things not being reset when they should be. When this happens the console window should have a big list showing all the currently running functions and their variable counts. Having that would help alot.

No its not a glitch. Games are not perfect.

Checking Stats While In Game
Sammy replied to Knight's topic in Call of Duty 4's Call Of Duty 4 Discussion
If you mean the mw2 mod you cant. At this time its been disabled until I am sure about menu asset limitations after I get things with higher priority in. Sucks but when it comes down to real time stats and gameplay requirements the stats window loses. -
The car one I have to look at. Hit detection itself is entirely out of my hands and the game engine controls it. Changing gunkick settings will certainly have an effect (ak vs scar etc). I made two changes in this regard for this server only: the acr and the steyr aug. The reason was balance. People here were not happy the damage was downgraded from the older mod so I raised it again. But to keep some kind of balance gunkick was slightly increased. edit: Ran many tests on the car from directly above the target and it damages correctly. However must consider that the max range for it is 256 units. Same as a standard C4 charge. Damage and falloff are also the same. If range is an issue, or how much damage is done, then that is a matter for the admins and you can set to a bigger radius sphere or damage.

Can Anyone Tells Me What This Means?

edit to above: should have added, if anyone new was around and a hacker did this everybody would be kicked. Its an old problem with the game that IW never fixed. -

Sammy replied to BigPapaDean's topic in Call of Duty 4's Call Of Duty 4 Discussion
When this happened can you tell me exactly what you were doing at the time? Server map rotation is one cause but there are others. Can also be done intentionally by lamer clients but I am sure nobody here would do that. -
On the mw2 mod all weapons are unlocked and there is no ranking up as far as weapon/perk locks are concerned. One of the things being considered for a future version made for combat only (no streaks, even uav) if we actually ever want to do one. But it would be a huge chore and dunno is its really worth it. Reason being would be to free up all the assets needed for streaks to use for other things. Anyways so long as the redirect has the correct files delete the mod and redown everything. Its the same for mac and pc.
