Just curious. On all these servers most players have... shall we say... interesting player names that arent their steam names. How do they do this?

Do they comment on your 'drinking problems'?

Here is a catch-22. Do you go hard and fast, hopefully to enjoy it before it melts away? Or do you go slow, with thereby less heat and friction, so it wont melt as fast and hopefully remain bigger and harder for a longer time.

Depends on why they left. Would making a particular map shorter keep those people in. They might like a particular map as a good alternative to the usual fare but not for a full 60 minutes or more. Maybe 30 at most. You can do best out of three also. Even so you are going to get some people leaving when they dont get that constant %100 24/7 adrenaline rush that comes with constant spray and pray in a small map. Its a tough job and we should all applaud dadda for the work he does, You have five people. Two really like a particular map. Three really hate it. And if those three dont get their way they leave. Do you say 'too bad' to those two players and take it out? Or do you try and make adjustments so everyone will think its a decent map and play it? Personally I cant stand mp_homelandsecurity with a full server and 9 rounds, but I dont think it should be removed either.

Thats why its set up that if certain maps are deemed too slow for a full 9-round match then we can lower it to best of 5 rounds. Its a good compromise instead of simply complaining and making demands. Many people put in a lot of time into making rotations for everyone. Especially when it comes to testing them for playabiity. But if there is a map that would be better if shortened people have to open their mouths and say something in the forums. Oh and it might be crap to you but to others rainy maps are fun. Same with larger open maps that are more friendly to snipers than say Killhouse. And of course night maps. "Sarge, I dont like fighting in the rain. Can we wait until it clears up?" "MOVE YOUR FUCKING ASS MAGGOT!"

I have 50 bucks sitting in a steam wallet waiting to see what to get. I dont have good enough specs for pubg nor the money for a new gpu... the prices are outrageous... but maybe will save it for this game. Was maybe going to get sw battlefront but since it was more or less a flop I'm going to use it for something else. So if Sandstorm lives up to the hype will there be an XI server for it? And hopefully a bunch of members that will buy it?

You arent going to get it anywhere except by those that want to sell it. Which is pretty crappy to try and make money off something like that.

I have never used it but codx does overcome certain limitations that would allow for things like more xmodels and many of the maps that currently fail because of memory allocation issues. So it is something to consider but yes it wouldnt be fair to osx users. Unless they want to go the bootcamp route but that also means buying windows and cod4 again.

We dont know what this steam 1.8 update is. However codx 1.8 doesnt replace the 1.7 executable afaik so that isnt it.

Yes that is not the 1.8 codx community created 'update'. So, what this steam 1.8 version is who can say. A couple possibilities discussed on what its for but strange that it wasnt made available to retail and neither steam nor activision is uttering a peep.

The current 1.8 codx version I am pretty sure work with 1.7 instead of overwriting it, unlike 1.7a.

One of the likely reasons why its US dollars is if its a US company because there are no laws here... yet... requiring them to keep such records. Even so, many companies (Google/Yahoo/Facebook/etc) do so voluntarily. Government record keeping (outside the voluntary record keeping) is different of course but highly classified national security data is not going to be given to entertainment companies for piracy reasons.

That or I suppose start calling people young whipper-snappers.

From what I read it seems the actual exploit they are concerned about doesnt apply to dedicated servers anyways just lobbies. But apparently its not just a cod4 problem.
