CoD:BO First Strike DLC for PC Written by jockyitch Monday, 21 March 2011 Treyarch appears to be following the Infinity Ward route by charging for DLC. I say "Treyarch" when of course, I should be saying Activision, which has the real say in the matter. First Strike will be finally available for the PC, roughly two months after it was made available to X-Box users (thanks H4WKE for the correction). The change in direction and philosophy regarding DLC has necessitated this post from JD_2020 (Treyarch Community Manager), who wants to educate us on the new norm. Source Hey PC fans, With the launch of First Strike on the PC on March 25th, I would like to answer a few of the most frequently asked questions from the community pertaining to server admins, clients, and map rotations. Please read the below guide carefully before posting questions in the forums. Clients: Anyone can play on any server, regardless of whether or not you have DLC installed. All players will continue to receive patches (including 1.07, which deploys alongside First Strike). If a server rotates to a DLC map that you do not have installed on your PC, you will automatically get kicked from that server. Note: There will be an additional browser filter introduced in patch 1.07 that allows you to exclude servers with DLC content in their rotation. Quick match searches will only put players into matches with content that they have installed. Admins: All servers will have First Strike available on March 25th. It will be at the server admin’s discretion whether or not to run DLC maps on their server. Admins will also have the freedom to choose which First Strike maps will run on their server. Note: Admins will NOT have to purchase a copy of the map pack in order to install it on their dedicated server. Hopefully that clears up some of the most frequently asked questions surrounding the DLC deployment that will take place on March 25th. Regards, -JD As a PC gamer I continue to be upset at being prioritized last amongst the platforms. Exclusive XBox contract or no...Activision is not making loyal PC customers feel very special. In the "old" days, Treyarch would make up for the fact that we got DLC late by getting a third part to subsidize it. I guess they couldn't find anyone willing to do that, so we will foot the bill. On top of getting the DLC late, any admin putting DLC on their server will cause gamers without the DLC to be kicked. This will split the community. Frankly, given the empty servers that abound, why would any admin risk losing the few players on his server by rotating to a map that many will not have? Finally, any wonder why mod tools are not yet out has just been answered. The predictable Boycott talk has already begun. First Strike Releases on PC Friday The wait is over! PC users will be receiving the First Strike DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops on March 25th. This release will include the 5 new maps that were included in the PS3 and Xbox releases; Kowloon, Berlin Wall, Discovery, Stadium, and Ascension! There will also be new Steam achievements to accompany Ascension and the mysteries it beholds. You can pre-order this content on Steam » at a 10% discount. It will cost the same price as the other two platforms for $15.00. PC players will also be comforted that Treyarch added the ability to filter out servers that contain these maps. This means you can play without the worry of being kicked when a DLC maps comes up in map rotation. Along with this, server admins will be able to choose which maps they would like to run on their server and which ones they would like excluded. If you skipping out on this purchase, you can still look forward to the 1.07 Patch for the game. This update will include all the 1.07 updates that PS3/Xbox received and a map editor/mod tools for the game. These long anticipated tools will allow you to create custom maps and modify various other components of the game. The other updates that you can look forward to consist of: New Features: Added the in-game store. Issues Addressed: Setting party privacy to “closed” now fully functions as intended. Improved connectivity in matches containing multiple online split screen parties. Calling in a Chopper Gunner immediately after getting shot down in a Gunship will no longer end the Chopper Gunner run prematurely. Required timing-specific button presses. Split screen players are now able to change camera perspectives and cycle through players as a spectator. Fixed rare infinite load for clients with slow connections who join on a friend at the end of a match as the final killcam is ending. The name of a copied custom class no longer reverts back to the default after changing it. Fixed a rare issue where gun sight lenses could appear opaque. Addressed an issue where the most recent match played in Zombies could overwrite the best match played on the leaderboard. Improved Zombies lobbies to prevent players from erroneously receiving the error “Unable to join game session” under certain circumstances. Fixed rare infinite load that could occur in Zombies involving split screen parties accepting an invite into a Private Match. Addressed a number of community-discovered Zombies gameplay exploits. Additional security feature updates. Gameplay Tuning: Additional sniper rifle tuning. On that note, make sure you fire up your rigs to download First Strike on March 25th at 10AM PDT along with some PC-exclusive Double XP!

General Comments: Patrick Bach: The Bad Company series has had little influence on BF3. BF3 will be a direct sequel to BF2 The BF3 team encompasses about 240 people, or three-to-four times more people that the BF2 team. Impressive lighting effects. Lighting technology uses "Light probes" on the map. One probe has more light information than one complete map in BC2. It also works with dynamically changing terrain. Gamestar witnessed a presentation that ran on a quad core cpu with a Radeon 5800 Destructability was apparently impressive. Character animations: A combination of ragdoll and scripted death animations, which Gamestar found to be pretty realistic. ANT and motion capturing technology from EA is being used which is being used on Sports games like Madden NFL. Unbelievable sound: Sound will be better than in BC2. One can easily locate shooters. Most realistic combat sound so far. The following smuggled footage came from GDC 2011. It gives us a taste of what is to come: Frostbite engine: Physics, Destruction Can display a huge number of dynamic lights DICE: Engine too complex for hobby modders. No mod tools at first, not sure whether there will ever be. One object can have up to 83 audio channels Single Player: BC-2-style wise-cracking humor, will be not be used. Spoiler: SP is set in a North American forested mountain terrain. There will be a European city setting and Iraq 2014 with 1st Recon Marines. At least one solo mission as jet pilot. Enemies: Iraqi resistance army PLR Some soldiers faces belong to DICE developers Several slow motion moments inSP At least one fight scene where the player has to click the right or left mouse button quick enough to win. Earthquakes in SP cause a Humvee to disappear into a huge crack, a high building collapses and hits a black hawk helicopter, falling pieces of buildings can hurt characters in sp and mp DICE didn't say whether it will be possible to give commands to comrades Multiplayer: Lars Gustavsson: MP designer is part of DICE since 2000 Max players pc: 64 Consoles: 32 MP info: F-16 and Su-27 spotted, modern helicopters, tanks 4 soldier classes, 5 accessories kits Maps will be as big as in BF2 Dice promises more unlock-able weapons and tools, the look can be changed, better balanced ranking system Hardcore mode: likely as it is popular Commander mode: Very unlikely Replay function: (aka Battlerecorder) Dice is testing it Coop mode: Has been announced, but Dice also called normal matches vs bots coop mode too Dedicated servers: Definitely Prone: Yes. Dice wants to avoid dolphin diving

WOULD YOU EVER COMPLAIN ABOUT T A JOB LIKE THIS
Sun Tzu replied to RAMBOS SON's topic in General Discussion
Now thats a DREAM Job -
Hardware manufacturer Asus has announced a successor to its highest-end Rampage III ultra gaming-grade motherboard range: the ROG Rampage III Extreme Black Edition. Quite a mouthful, but that’s what the boys are calling it. She’ll use a X58 chipset, and also include some fancy new “ThunderBolt” technology — a new, in-house developed expansion card that integrates Xonar sound, as well as BigFoot’s Killer NPU. According to the specification sheet released by Asus, this latest mobo will be rather similar to last year’s board of almost the exact same name. However, there will be some revisions to the heatsinks which will hopefully make for a much cooler and better performing board overall. There’ll also be the inclusion of four PICe x16 expansion slots which will be capable of supporting four-way CrossFireX (or “QuadFireX”) or three-way SLi (or tri-SLi) for all you extreme gamers out there. You’ll also be able to lump a massive 24GB of RAM in there, with support for speeds of up to 2,200MHz. Pricing and availability is still up in the air, so to speak. Expect more details to be released by Asus soon. ampage III Black Edition pictures I saw at CeBIT, but we could turn it on all sides and closer analysis.. . The first thing that strikes us is the additional card, called the Thunderbolt, which incorporates sound and LAN solution. The audio series is based on existing Xonar sound cards and incorporates a headphone amplifier. Networking is provided by dedicated processor E2100 from Bigfoot Networks Killer. . . Rampage Black Edition III layout has changed from III Rampage Extreme motherboard market presence since last year. Thus, the new Rampage III retains many of the amendments made by Maximus Extreme IV. We identify such corner dedicated to overclocking (OC Zone) which includes the right corner Debug LED, Power button, Reset and Clear CMOS switches for activating and deactivating the PCI-Express slots as well as points of voltages. For those who do not want to use separate network card, and find an onboard network controller from Intel. I note also the daughter-board Bluetooth + WiFi 802.11n located near the rear panel. . . Besides Rampage III Black Edition ASUS booth I could see and new revision 3.0 of the Maximus Extreme IV. This change brings the main use of the new B3 revision of the Intel P67 chipset, but also improvements in terms of overclocking and performance. .
