i think Covid makes people dumb or burnt out
Sitting-Duc replied to KaptCrunch's topic in General Discussion
I am so confused by this thread and the content. -
FYI it does seem like they have messed up their BGP routing - they host their own DNS etc. and having messed that up they essentially 'withdrew' from the internet. https://web.archive.org/web/20210626191032/https://engineering.fb.com/2021/05/13/data-center-engineering/bgp/ That article (access through web archive as live is obviously down) details a bit into how they are managing it. But if they have pushed a bad update then I imagine they lost access to the development/engineering tools to rollback. On top of that if you imagine most corporate structures use VPNs for remote working which are under their DNS and many other internal and external tools that is likely impeding the resolution simply due to access issues. How does one authenticate against a domain if it does not resolve? Fascinating problem that they are experiencing and I'm intrigued to see if we get details of the root cause and resolution. I wouldn't be surprised if there are people attempting to breakdown access controlled doors as we speak or manual patching of configs in data centres.

or ya know.. someone just broke their DNS?... A $500+ billion company doesn't purposefully take down all their services like this to 'scrub the evidence' - they hire a hitman or pay people off...

Nothing in particular - just learn more about the framework in principal. So start with building up the management groups, landing zones etc. Essentially I need to understand it enough to assist with enterprise implementation of it. Out of interest - is your migration purely IaaS with no conversion to SaaS or PaaS?

Has anyone done anything with the Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure? or interested in learning? Link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cloud-adoption-framework/ I have a need to learn and implement for work so have been (naturally) looking at shifting some XI stuff around to enable me to do that - thought I would ask if anyone else has experience of or would be interested in learning it with me to help get things moving? *sigh*.. I don't know; I made the mistake of clicking on this thread and see if has turned into a he-said-she-said conspiracy riddled mix of toxic substances that have come out from breeding cows and budgies with each other on nuclear submarines and then giving them the ability to talk and attack each other verbally in different languages when they can't understand one another. <--- see this crap. It's like the other content in this thread. But; on a serious note. Now you have got to insulting each other I think I can get away with locking this thread without being accused of attacking the constitution of the United States of America. Even though I am not American. And the server is not American. And being American has nothing to do with it.

It's just a new feature that came with the last update - not configured yet. Waiting for the re-indexing to complete before looking at it. -

Did a suckling pig last weekend for the family - first I have ever done and we did a 'Heath Robinson' BBQ made out of an oil drum. Anyway here are some pics of the pig (reverse order from cooked): Made a load of pulled pork and a fair few meals in all. A load of it still frozen for future meals.

You ever thought it could move even more East for some of us? @Olive what do you think? I don't think I will be there this year; what with short notice, travel complications etc. We will have to next make year a good one!

The eggs thing 'cracks' me up every time now..

Updated my machine to W11 today and have been having a little play. As one might expect at this stage really its just the UI changes that are noticeable. Everything is working fine and I am liking the organised settings - that has always annoyed me. Generally the feel is good and I am liking it - looking forward to the next drops. I might also update O365 to the insider as well, undecided though.
-
Ah I have always used Pro/Enterprise anyway
-
Thought there was some misleading messages around TPM and I can see that the spec page has been updated https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications In any case.. who doesn't run TPM/BitLocker as standard now anyway?
-
Yeah it does look like nothing 'ground breaking' - mainly skin/theme and usability changes. The core of the OS is exactly the same as W10. There is no change to the enterprise management or tooling etc. Either way - I will get the Beta next week and have a play with it!
-
Yep looking at what has been released so far they are definitely pushing security and privacy - certainly some systems won't be compatible but ah well

Not that it helps you but this sort of thing happening should highlight to others the importance of proper password management, two factor authentication and recovery settings. Also simply using the features available for sharing purchases. If you are wanting to share games with a family member you could have used family sharing: https://store.steampowered.com/promotion/familysharing (Google 'Steam share games'). My topical tips would be: You should ideally not share individual accounts with anyone (even your family). Look at resource sharing options within the service Accounts should have long, unique passwords (perhaps look at password managers) Where possible accounts should have two-factor authentication enabled, especially if they are for something that has personal details such as name/address/payment cards or are linked to purchases You should securely store the recovery codes for accounts somewhere safe & offline Steam Guard (if enabled) would have protected your account: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4020-ALZM-5519 I wouldn't be inclined to call Steam shit for this one
