  14. Transponder manually turned off or out of order nobody knows... The plane had enough fuel to travel about 6 hours or 3500 miles at the altitude he was the last time spotted (FL 300 or 30000 ft ) that's correct but if he was flying low altitude the range would drop to approx 1500 miles ( more fuel consumption ).That's still a big area to search and if the plane made a turn once he could have made another one later..or severals...because it was hijacked or because he lost his maneuverability for some reasons..again nobody knows It will probably take some time before they find where is the plane but they will find it at least some parts of it . To figure out the reasons of the crash will probably take a lot longer. Talking about what happened to the airline i work for and the flight AF447 we lost in 2009 between Rio and Paris the plane automatically sent 24 malfunction messages ( ACARS ) to the maintenance during his 4 minutes descent. The last one just minutes before the plane crashed into the sea was giving his position but it took 6 days to find some parts of the plane and 23 months to find the flight recorders ! The only big aircraft which disappeared and was never found was a Varig B707 flying from Tokyo to Rio whith 6 crews on board ( i thik it was a cargo flight but not sure ) it was in 1979.
