Noddy, depends how far you want to travel or if your driving, but I used to stay in the New Forest, with several good country pubs around the areas like Lyndhurst and Bucklers Hard, in the town, any pubs as the place is full of hot female students! lol.
for you Toot, I used to live about 20 mins from Brize Norton, and about 10 mins from there is a truly proper
English pub in Great Tew, The Falkland Arms, one of the best in the country. If you really want a proper shot of what a pub used to be like, loads of whiskies (50 available or used to be), snuff, flagstone floors and beautiful village. I used to go there regularly, almost all the houses in the village are thatched cottages, and my father and grandfather when they were bakers used to supply the local Post office, 2 doors down from the pub. A recommended visit.

See the out and about page, Hook Norton Brewery is in the place where I was born, a truly great brewery, my local pub was 200yds from the brewer itself, and they do tours and have a shop, and they still use the original steam pumps and machinery.
