Ok folks.  Let see if anyone can help here.  I have a Asus M4N82 Deluxe motherboard with 3 way sli compatiable pci-e slots.  I have order 3 gforce 460gtx overclocked video cards.  I have a coolmax cug 950b 950 watt power supply that is 3 way sli certified.  Now this power supply only has 2 pci-e power cords.  I have looked on board n video and power supply specs and nothing list on how to run the power wires to these 3 video cards.  Do I only wire to of them or do I need some spliter and where can i find that?  Can anyone help?

Yes you need power to all three cards.

Do not use a splitter to run two cards off one set of wires. Try to use a separate set of wires (for each card) leading back DIRECTLY to your power supply.

If you use a splitter for two cards, you could get random crashes that are very hard to trace.

yes all the cards should be powered, if your power supply says that it is 3-way sli compatible then it should have 3 of the power cords, im assuming its got the 8pin pci-e and the other one not sure of what it is because i havent had to upgrade graphics since i have an asus gaming laptop, but if they come with two, then look into the manual that came with your power supply and see if they specifly certain molex cables for using an adapter that should come with the graphics cards, usually they will since the graphics cards are on their own rail in the power supply (to the best of my knowledge)

but like yoda said dont use the adapter, unless you absolutly need it, it can and prob will cause crashes because it can have sudden changed in the volts and amperage going to the graphics card, they are senitive peices of expensive plastic, and over volting or under volting can and will cause crashing and failure. ps i know my spelling blows

This power supply has 2 8 pin pci-e ports, 3 4pin peripharal and floppy ports, 2 2pin s-ata ports and 2 4pin s-ata ports.  The 2 pci-e cords have a 8pin plug on other end and a short jumper with a 6pin plug on it.  That is the spec on it.

I think you will need  2x6pin for each card and it looks like your psu can handle dual SLI only :(

Your power supply should have came with lots of adapters, Mine has the same setup and all I had to do was use a 8->6 pin adapter that came with it.

nope, only have 2 plug for each one of the ports.  Now looking at the specs of the cards.  They have a 6 pin power cable which leads me to believe it is only one 6 pin plug for card.  Going ahead and ordering the plug.  Just in case.  Would rather 3 way sli if i can.  :)

which card did you order? the gigabyte 460 overclocked needs 2x6pin for each card

its just if  the psu cant handle the power requirements for three cards these adapters wont help because you have to live with endless crashes under full load

it should be this one?

PNY 460 OC

look at the general specs:

Power Connector
2 x 6 Pin
System Requirements
Minimum 450W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 38A)

your psu has 20A-25A on each 12V rail

if you use a splitter you are going to run the card that needs 38A on a rail with a max of 25A

the result will be crashes on high load  :(
this is your PSU?
122419,coolmaxpsuLW7UQ.jpg

you can try the adapters dogg suggested but each adapter has to be connected at a several 12V connection

I dont know how many of your 4pin peripherie connectors are not connected yet...

122420,coolmaxpsu2XPD1M.jpg

I hope this helped :)

You hit it on the nose nightmare.  Nice work.  I ordered 2 of the adapters dog was talking about just to be on safe side.   I have 3 per ports and only 1 is in use for cooling fans and other 2 with nothing as everything is s-ata. Thanks for the info.  I was just getting ready to research the card to see what it said about the power hook ups.

Well.  The bad news.  I had the stuff to do the power and set it up.  Put the cards in, hooked up the power and went to connect the bridge and well frack.  My 3 way bridge is set up like most I have found online.  3 sets of 2 plugin for the cards.  Well.  The cards I got only have 1 plugin.  And I can not find the single row 3 plug bridge.  Only single rows is the 2 way sli birdges.  Any ideas.

looks like you are a bit unlucky atm....

I found this here

GTX 460 test

they say :

The GTX-460 lineup is SLI capable but you can see from the single connector that Nvidia is only going to allow 2 of these in SLI. So, if your looking at triple SLI you'll need to move to the GTX-465 or above.

didnt know that, sorry man, I am better with crossfire setups Frown
