I support removing it from gov't control and eliminating the disability aspects of it - it should be purely a retirement program managed like a 401K: you get back whatever money you put in, plus interest. But when "your" money runs out, so do the checks. I'm not interested in subsidizing someone else's retirement, nor do I ask other taxpayers to subsidize mine. If the federal gov't would write me a check for what I've paid in over 47 years - plus the interest my money would have earned - I'd opt out today, and retire tomorrow. I have found that most who support redistributing tax dollars wouldn't think of walking down their street handing out part of their paycheck to those less fortunate. But they have no problem with government doing that with somebody else's money, through force. Awards
