While getting my degree in applied physics and electonics, i wanted to build something similar but my professor said it would be a nightmare of logistics. For that platform to have over a half million $ budget, i'd agree. I like the paintball force feed back, thats something i didnt consider, although one of my final projects was a remote controlled Airsoft machinegun. I wonder how they incorperate other functions of gameplay such as weapon switching, use, grenade, etc.. My personal feelings is that you could rewire the buttons of a keyboard to wearable harness with buttons relocated to apropriate places, but i have always been partial to canibalization of parts. This concept can be extended to large buttons on the ground for movement and actions like jumping, crouching or going prone, but this method only allows a fixed frame of reference (faces only one direction) which is fine for a single projector as your screen. The gun/view interface is interesting, an acellerometer(in phone) on gun determines camera direction and aiming. This setup is impressive in a 360 degree viewing enviroment. Now if only they had something that could be rail mounted to any real/airsoft rifle that reads trigger pull and uses accelerometers in the same way the phone is to control sight/aim, as well has other buttons for aiming down sights like theirs or have your reload button at the bottom of a magazine well. I figure a true hardcore simulator will put life like weapons in your hands. Anyway i know any critiques about this monster system is meaningless. I'd give someone left nut for that system no doubt and im really glad someone has taken the time and massive bankroll to take the concept of a FPS simulator to the gaming world.
