Hey all, I was wondering if someone more experienced could offer some advice in sniping.

My problem:

This is typically how I die lol. I am armed with sv98 and am on the far reaches of the map. I am way out of regular traffic of moving forces and vehicles. Usually behind some rocks laying on my belly in the grass. In real life, I'm totally concealed. But this is what usually happens...   Somebody gets line of sight on me from the other side of the map and a random tank will see my icon on the screen and even though they can't see ME, they can see my orange little icon over my head and then they spend the next minute blasting me out of my hidding spot. I doesn't seem to matter how much action they have going on right next to them, they will turn and fire 400 yards across the map to try and hit me.

If you ask me, I think the game has too many rockets and high powered vehicles.

Sniping is practice... the more you play ..it will get better..

for me , I always go around the enemy and it is important to keep distance in sniping or keep ur handgun ready when u face enemy in close combat so # 2 key for me to bring the handgun out with flashlight on it....

-For the longer distance

-400 yards is nothing for good snipers...

-anything above 500 yards , it gets difficult bcz the bullets wont hit straight. they tend to start falling So, you need to aim bit higher on enemy..

-Never aim for center of enemy ..that will only damage the enemy. It wont kill him...go above head or at least try to go for headshot. It sohuld kill the guy in two shots max.

-Use Bipod to increase accuracy.

- be quick after you miss ur first shot with either sniper or handgun...adjust ur aim depending on how high ur first shot was..u have to remember where did u shoot first time then u take the second shot kill him or third to finish him off..

that s what I do lol

Awesome, thx for the tips!

I actually went for the straight bolt instead of the bipod. On rocks, the bipod can be a real pain in the butt and it's hard to control how much you are visible. Also, with straight bolt, since I'm not that good yet, when I miss, I can track where he goes.

When I play sniper I play front line but I don't use the bolt action weapons, but if you were going to play backline like that I would recommend ranking up your co-op points and unlocking the M-39 EMR semi-auto it has the same x12 scope upgrade as the sv98 but with the semi-auto follow up shot capability and 20rounds instead of 10 and can still use a bipod if you like, second if your just wanting to get your sniping skills up you might want to play on a hardcore server that has spotting turned off and no killcam.  Also I like taking a few practice shots on a wall/building across the map to check my bullet drop as soon as I spawn before I hit the real fight, I find practice shots very useful for finding the max range of a weapon before drop adjustment starts to really effect my shot.

I'm not an expert at sniping Murlock is way better than me, those are just a few things I have found helpful so far. Smile

Yea, I always take a range testing shot whenever I get set in the position I want. That way I can get the headshot first try.

What's this? You can unlock weapons for mp by playing co-op? How fast can you get co-op xp points in a co-op game?

agree with Primal there!!

hardcore server is fun to play sniper .. definately kills the guy even you shoot him in the lag .. at the end, you have to decide which sniper u like most? Semi auto ( M-39 or some others) or ( sv-98, M40A or M98B ).    what ever works for you hehehe good luck sniping

Yeah, Goto stats page then weapons tab, look at the far right side that shows all the weapons-mouse over them and it shows what you need to unlock each.  I think all the classes have a co-op weapon unlock except support.

Depends on your score and whether you complete each one or not, I haven't done the last one yet.  I'd guess a few hours maybe? But I haven't unlocked them all, so not sure just guessing. There are some pretty fun missions though.

Grats on the 512 btw Cool

yea, I'm new to BF3, I always played more light weight ninja on COD4 freezetag servers. SO.. switching to recon AND BF3 has really thrown my game off :)  I like it better I think, but it's definitely a learning curve. I'm realizing that I can only get about 10 kills a round. So scoring up is a bit slower when doing recon class since you spend a lot of your time watching and waiting. (and checking your back lol)

I'm also learning that the MAV is my best friend! I haven't been able to really get any points by spotting for people, but I have saved my skin many times (and gotten some good kills) by scoping out enemy movements before choosing my vantage point what area is downrange.
