A previous resident here has obviously run up an undischarged debt as, one day, a bailiff appeared on the doorstep. He was surprised to learn that we'd been here three years - the claimant had not checked the register of electors and neither had the court granting the warrant! However, minus a power of entry, and provided with a reasonable explanation, he departed and and has not returned. One alarming point of law is that, if one leaves ones home insecure (e.g. a window open), a bailiff may enter and seize property and it is then up to the rightful owner to prove ownership. This is rather like legalised burglary! Awards
