Hey a mate of mine has set a password on his Dell e6420 laptop but forgot what it is :wallbash:

he wants reformate but cant get past the password, does anyone know how this can be done?

All the searching I did and most all states you have to pay about $30 to get a master password. Good luck

if its the windows one you dont need to pay 30 bucks... there are several ways pass a windows password. heck if he has everything off of it he can do a restore without ever going into anything but the bios

if its a windows password you can use Active Disk Image to make a boot disk that will let you delete the passwords for the users

if it is the bios password, give me the serialnumber of the laptop i think i found a way to find the pw. it should look like this or similar -> 111Z6R1-1D3B

a bios password on a desktop can be easily reset in about 10 seconds without downloading any programs. not sure about a laptop as i've never seen the inside of one.

in laptops u usally dont have a cmos, so no battery to put out and back in.

i heard that some laptops have a resetjumper but this are only the really old 5 tons heavy laptops i think.
