I need to type this quickly before my machine crashes. I suspect that my machine needs a new power supply, which I'll try and pick-up one later today.

heat will cause shutdowns, clean all the dust and bunnies out of your machine as a first step

Yes, Dirt and dust is always the first thing to check. Also check that the thermal paste isn't dried out on your CPU.

I wish it was just dust, it was in fact the power supply. One of the large rectifiers was cracked. I'm surprised that it worked at all. I put in a new 850watt OcZ Z series PSU, for now all is good.

i read sticky.... humm. bummer... was hoping for a juicy story. lol

 

Hope you get her fixed. Lots of times if the dust as been there a long time... the dust acts as insulation trapping the heat on the components weakening them over time.
