Over the last several months, ATI has been put out the better of the video cards, such as the 5800 series. I my self though , am a fan of Nvidia fan. The 460 is a beast, your power supply will need alot of amperage on the +12dcvolts rail, probably 30 amps if you are running one card, 60amps if running SLI.

Recommended Power Supply

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 460

  • On your average system the card requires you to have a 450 to 500 Watt power supply unit.

GeForce GTX 460 in SLI

  • A second card requires you to add another ~200 Watts. You need a 650 ~700 Watt power supply unit.

There are many good PSUs out there, please do have a look at our many PSU reviews as we have loads of recommended PSUs for you to check out in there. What would happen if your PSU can't cope with the load?:

  • bad 3D performance
  • crashing games
  • spontaneous reset or imminent shutdown of the PC
  • freezing during gameplay
  • PSU overload can cause it to break down

The GTX460 has better specs then the 5770, but uses more power.

For that price, it's a good deal.  Personally, I'd go with nVidia.  ATI's drivers have sucked major balls over the past 4 or 5 releases.  I had a 4850x2 (water cooled) and couldn't stand it because of the damn drivers.  I just got 2 GTX 460's and LOVE 'EM.  They can max Crysis at 1920x1200 with no AA.  They beat a GTX 480.  They're no bigger than a 8800GT, so you don't need a massive case to hold them.  They run pretty cool.  My idle temps (after replacing the stock TIM) was 33 and load (Furmak BURN!!!) was ~70c.  I could hear the fans kick up when it hit 60c, but it's no louder than the stock fans in an Antec 900.

I'M NOW THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE OF THESE ...IF I CAN I'LL LIKE TO GETT THE 2 GB VERSION

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sapphire-ATI-Radeon-HD-5850-TOXIC-1GB-Graphics-Card-/350316278419?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW

There's no difference between that XFX card and this one, except for price and a few exta MHZ on the clock speed.

Stay away from the 5830!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's a VGA processor that didnt make the grade for the 5870 or 5850 so they just shut off a shit load of transistors so it cant overload---piece of shit-- The 5850 is the biggest bang for your buck!! GET The one your looking at---you will cream when you FIRST RUN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think you have to look for the 2 GB version....

its around 300£ isnt it?

look at some earlier tests , it increases fps but only 1 or 2 frames depends what game you try...

most of the time its the same like the 1 GB version

not worth it Cool
