Did you go as far as Big Sur? Hwy 1 can be a mind blowing drive, especially north of Bodega Bay. You're very high on a cliff and can see for 100 miles on clear days, but if you take your eyes off the road you can die.

Two thirds of the Russian population believes that the US and/or NATO will some day attack them. Cold war propaganda and mass mind control are still alive and well in the world. Russians are told the US is the true evil empire and the west is told that just about everybody else is evil. The sanctions imposed of them for annexing Crimea are a perfect example since most Russians see absolutely nothing wrong with what they did. Putin needs to publicaly test the waters with his bombers on a regular basis to show his people that they are ready for the eventual attack from the west. It's the only way he remains so popular with his people. Showing weakness (like our president) doesn't make you very popular.
