Alrighty, here goes!! I was 17, serving 12 months in a youth detention center here in Canada. At night I would hear one of the councilors/guards playing guitar after us youths/inmates went to bed. I knew my folks had an old guitar kicking around at home. This was an "open custody" style detention center. Meaning dorms, open doors, you could walk out at any time, but, if ya did, you went to maximum security, so, ya didnt want to screw up! I asked the guard if he would teach me to play, he said if I went 2 weeks with no infractions he would put in a request to allow me to bring in a guitar. I did it and he kept up his end. He started to teach me the basics and I caught on fast, within a month he was teaching me short classical finger picking pieces, Intro to Dust In The Wind, Intro to Stairway, Bouree in E minor, 316 by Eddie V. He saw something in me and made me see something in myself. When i got out of custody I kept playing and practicing for a year or so then life took over, responsibilities, kids, work. I didnt play guitar for about 15 years. Then my Father won a Walking Dead custom electric guitar in an online contest and gave it to me, I bought a small amp and started goofing around. Then along came this rock band from Canada called Monster Truck. I wanted sooo bad to learn their songs and would spend hours pouring over youtube videos and such to figure out the riffs (i am mostly tone deaf, figuring stuff out on my own by ear is near impossible for me, I need Tab or 1 on 1 instruction) I started learning more and more of their tunes and became friends with the band on a personal level. The boys in the band even had me up on stage to play a song with them a year or so ago after I lost over 140 lbs of fat to fit into their clothing and merch! Now I get to go hang out with the band nearly weekly, get to hear and watch them record and create new songs for the upcoming albums and get to pick the lead guitarists brain about his riffs and his mastery of the D penatonic scale!

My boys in Monster Truck were playing an outdoor festival yesterday and hooked me up with front row pass and backstage access! Was an amazing day out in the sun with some amazing Rock and Roll!! I think there was 8 bands in total. Castor Troys (local band) Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion (Local Band) The Crownlands (watch for these 2, they are going to hit it big soon... like big big) The Headstones, Monster Truck, Live, Bush and a couple indie bands on side stages. Randy Bobandy of The Trailer Park Boys (if you dont know these guys look em up, if ya are Canadian, ya BETTER know who I am talking about fuckers!!!) was MC and got to hang backstage with him having beers and spliffs after the show! Had a great chat with Hugh Dillon of the Headstones if you have ever seen the tv Show Flashpoint, he is in that show as well as lead singer of The Headstones Heres a few pics of the day, god I love front row concerts!!! Hugh Dillon and The Headstones My Boys in Monster Truck doing what they do! Notice the lead guitarist guitar? If any of ya's have seen my guitar vids I have the exact same guitar, only 100 were made that year in that color and model, I have 1 and he has 2 of them Me hanging with Randy of the Trailer Park Boys backstage having some laughs and beers... the greasy fat bellied cheeseburger eater that he is!! Went and got the outline done on my latest piece! it goes from my knee to crest of my hip. Those who have seen me, I aint a small dude, this is a big fucking tat LOL. 3 hours of line work into it. and as you can see, there are ALOT of fucking lines! Bastard was laughing at me when I showed up today, he said "I think you are going to love and hate me at the same time" He is right, love the design! I told him all i wanted was a gibson SG smashing into a Marshall stack and it is on outside of leg, I let him run with it artistically from that point. I love what he came up with... I hate him for the amount of lines LOL, but, i go to him he dont come to me as he is fond of reminding me LOL. Got a date booked in July to finish it off, hope to get in before that if there are cancellations! Hes booking 3 months out as it is.

My love of the Canadian Rock band Monster Truck is no unknown thing, for those who dont know... I love the Canadian rock band called Monster Truck LOL. Been following them for years, seen them now 26 times live, was invited to be in one of their rock videos, have played guitar onstage to a sold out house with them. They supported my whole weightloss journey. They have taken this fan and made him more then a fan, i am a friend to the band, I dont have to pay for tickets to see them, I let them know what show I am going to be at and i come hang out with them, go out for dinner and beers, hang backstage, smoke a joint, just chill out... like... friends. I run their Facebook fan page for them. Well last night was the last night of their Canadian tour before they head across the pond for a Euro tour! (Euro members should check these guys out if they are near you and you love good rock and roll!!!) I got to the show about 4 hours early and got to hang out with the lead singer and guitarist for a while... chicken wings... beers... joints... laughs... just a good fucking time! Then they hooked me up, instead of heading off into the crowd to see the show they let me watch the show from side stage! The sound of a concert from sidestage is not as good, all the ummppffff is directed out into the crowd. The lead guitarist hooked me up with a clone of the little box thingy he uses, I plugged earbuds in and I get all the same sound he gets, which is all the instruments and mics so it sounded like i was right in the thick of it all but with the freedom of being side stage and not crushed by the crowds (yes the crowds at their shows can ge ta bit rowdy and pushy at times, its rock and roll, what can ya do LOL) These boys are so fucking amazing and just awesome regular dudes! Check them out on Youtube some time, Monster Truck or check their website out for tour dates www.ilovemonstertruck.com If you are on facebook search up "Monster Truck Fans Unite" it is the fanpage I run for them. here are a few pics from last night, love how Jer (the lead guitarist) came over mid song to mug in the camera with my side stage selfie! Bad ass!!!
