Bought a new 1tb hard drive recently. Loaded my legit copy of Win 7 pro 32bit onto it, and downloaded updates, drivers, etc. I'll be dipped, couldn't find my activation key. Tried magic jelly bean, but got a key that was useless. Dammit, called Microsoft, but they didn't care for the key Jelly Bean found, their suggestion was to purchase another copy of Win7. Couldn't get them to sell me another key. Damn. Didn't feel like buying a new copy of Windows 8 64bit, at least not right now. Looked at my old hard drive, but it had failed completely, and couldn't provide any information whatsoever. Damn again, looked like I was going to have to buy another operating system, whether I wanted to or not.
Tore my desk apart, because I knew I wouldn't throw away something that important. Found the activation key sticker laying at the bottom of one desk drawer, nowhere near the operating system disks. Changed keys, and Microsoft verified the install. Sigh of relief. DO NOT LOSE that f'ing sticker. Nothing works like the original, and MS isn't sympathetic to excuses. Now I feel comfortable re-installing all my games & programs.
Happy New Year!
