I have 10 on my laptop and turned updates is off on it. Just disable the update service. If you want updates at any point, just enable it. Go to administrative tools, then component services, then services, then scroll down to windows update. Right click on it, choose properties, then under "startup type" choose disable. Update will not check or download any updates after that.

I feel for you !!! I have a garage and shed full of my kids stuff. Bad thing is, when they move back out they leave half of it !!! I'm spring cleaning this year and warned them to get their crap out before then. Or its going to goodwill !!!

I did put 10 on a laptop I just got a few months ago and after several hours of tweaking it works fine. The steps to remove all of Microsoft's damn privacy invasion shit was horrendous. But I have it running pretty good. I would never install it on my main pc's, but I was curious to check it out. Laptop is used mainly for browsing and some music creation and 10 works fine for what I do on it. Black Vipers guides to tweaking all versions of windows is a must www.blackviper.com . I always disable non critical "services" on all installs. But 7 will be on my main pc's for many years to come, just a I still run XP SP3 on a few. If it aint broke ......

Hope to head out this weekend and do some shooting with it. One good thing about growing up and living in farm country is that we have plenty of places to go shooting. Both public and private.

Ended up buying a Ruger SR9C . Came down to that model and a S&W M&P Shield. The S&W was a tad narrower, but the magazine capacity was only 8 rounds (single stack), compared to the Rugers 17 round (double stack). Both received great video and web reviews. But the added rounds (comes with a 10 round and 17 round magazine) and the Rugers added safety features made it easy to decide on it even though it was $100 more. Thanks again for all the input.

That's for the input. Will start researching them. My daughter is going to take the class also. She joined the National Guard and just got back from boot/school. She has been gone for 8 months. From what I have read, she will just have to do the 2 hour range part of the class, since she is considered active military. At least that's how it is in Ohio.
