Alaska man accused of robbing bank with a hammer ANCHORAGE, Alaska – An Anchorage man has been arrested after authorities say he robbed a downtown bank with a hammer. Court documents say 61-year-old Alan Bronson Rice threatened a Key Bank teller with the hammer on Wednesday and briefly got away with more than $1,000. The documents allege he pulled the hammer from a bag, put it on the counter and told the teller: "I need your money." The Anchorage Daily News reports a Good Samaritan followed Rice as he left the bank, and pointed him out to a responding officer. Rice has been jailed on felony bank robbery charges.

I've seen 3 news articles in the past 3 weeks where responsible gun owners foiled crime. Good on them for doing so and not inflicting collateral damage in the process. My point is, that for every heart-warming story of the bad guy getting what's deserved, there are far too many stories of bystanders getting shot from yahoos shooting indiscriminately either in "defending" themselves or from assholes, such as in what I posted, thinking that they're within their rights to do whatever the fuck they want on their property without consideration of the deadly consequences.. Fortunately for this criminal that he complied with the home owner and there was a video. Texas has "The Castle Doctrine" and he was outside the owners home with no aggressive actions. If he attempted to pull out a wrench or a hammer to attack the homeowner he could have been shot with no repercussions to the home owner. Kudos for the restraint this homeowner showed.
