Also change the default password for connecting into the control panel of your router, and ensuring its strength and being different to your wireless password.

Yes static ip addresses for your LAN. Default router ip is normally 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Your router then gives out any address from 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.0.2 up to .254 It will not give .255 as this is a broadcast address. Also note that this ip range is a APIPA range (Automatic Private Internet Protocol Allocation). Which means its not a public ip address range, and hence your ISP will provide with a ip address from a completely different public range. You will not have to supply MAC address unless you want to make your network bomb proof for security. Which means if you have switched on MAC address filtering, then in the MAC address table of the router you must supply the list of all device MAC addresses you will allow to connect to your router. If the MAC address isn't listed, then that device will not be allowed to connect to your router. This would be a real pain in the ass if you want to do co-op modes in online gaming, where you are hosting, as you would have to add you friends MAC address to your router. In short its overkill for what you need. I only set this up in our Corporate environment.

Yeh the industry standards are WEP, WPA and WPA2. WPA2 being the strongest going backwards. Only use WEP if your hardware (laptop, printer, etc) doesn't support WPA2. Though most devices do these days. I would even hide your SSID from broadcasting, that way when people browse for wireless networks nearby, it will not even display yours. This doesn't stop you from connecting to yours, it's just that you have to manually type in the SSID AND password. Added security really, as it stops bute force attacks, as they can't find it (well not easily). In the UK, it is actually illegal to not have a password on your wireless!!! Though I don't think anyone would actually get prosecuted for it.

eidolon what it's looking for is autorun.exe but maybe that isn't there, most discs have autorun.ini. If this is the case, which I have no idea cause I've never had that problem... open the ini file and read what .exe file it says on the inside. Then just run that file manually. Most likely that would be just something like Setup.exe or Install.exe. (it wouldn't hurt to just look for those from the start.) (if you don't see it just inside the disc directory, look inside the folders in the disc. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out which one it would be in.) I have no idea if that will help you or not, it's just my 2 cents. ( it's what I would prolly do if that ever happened to me ) This is the easiest way. Just put the DVD in your drive, and right click the drive and choose open. You can now browse the contents of the disk. Find install.exe, setup.exe or whatever the autorun is actually targeting. Saves you having to play around with registry, which if you get wrong, could ruin you entire OS install.

To prove it is the video card, just borrow a basic one from a friend and put it in. If you get graphics, then you are right. No need to put the drivers on for the borrowed card.

Also when you boot apart from the sound, do you get any visuals what so ever? I mean do you even see the bios load? It could be failing at the POST (Power On Self Test).

Well the beeps are an audible notice of a problem from your bios. Modern mobos also have a small bios LCD on them, and may show a letter and number, for example C3. If you have one of these report back the letter and number, your bios and mobo manufacturer. Have you also tried putting the graphics card in another slot?

PrimalFear wait a minute I thought you didn't like 64man servers you said you will only join if it's half empty, which means you would never see me anyway because I only join when it's half full. PMSL. No I do play them cause I like XI members and others who play it. Though it gets too boring when that full, spawn, die, spawn, die, etc. lol. On a serious note I think guys should do it, as it also shows some authority in the servers, and 9 times out of 10 stops assholes from bitching and base r**ing. When I changed my name it took 30 seconds. Must be a problem with your wetware. You should wear your admin tags with pride.

Could I request that BF3 admins change their names so we can easily identify an admin in game. Say for example name_XI_ADM. I can never remember who the admins are, and this is what we do for all other games.

Well I'm just trying to do a process of emlinination. If your machine ONLY crashes with COD 5, then I would start there. Save your profile, so you don't loose your rank, and give it a go. It can't hurt. You don't want to spend money buying other hardware until you are sure you have eliminated software. Also just move you maps, and mods to another location before reinstall, and try redownloading mods and said faulty maps. If all is well then it was that that caused the issue. If it still hapeens, then move your maps and mods from the other location back, and focus on hardware. You have nothing to loose.

We reset the Ultrastats at the beginning of every month for 2 reasons: 1 - The log files grow very large and this gives us a chance to free up space, and increase performance when querying the database. 2 - It gives others a chance in the new month to come top of the leaderboards.

Sonovabich I tried a TDM out this morning with 8 players in, was'nt impressed, the map was Teheran Highway, only about a quarter of the map was used, there were random spawns, 1 second the enemy was in front of you at the top of the hill so i sit up there looking for them only to find they have all now spawned at the bottom of the hill, that's all that was happening running up and down a hill, not saying we would do it like that if we got a server but it just did not feel like BF3 anymore even though i done quite well in the 10 mins i played i got 6 kills and only 1 death not sure if i would rush back though. Ouch, yeh you picked the worst map ever for your first TDM game. I hate that map so much when playing that game type, that I go to another server. It's like a long corridor. However, you get to see that the maps aren't as big when it's infantry only. Try another.
