There is also a file in the Activision/Call of Duty 4/Miles called mssmp3.asi, you need to change that to mssmp3.bak so essentially just the asi to bak. This worked for me for some odd reason, but as with most mods it will crash now and then with the iw3mp.exe problem. I can't promise it will fix it but it's worth a shot!

I am gonna try the unplug the speakers thing ...have not done that yet. ya see i have my speakers plugged in the back of my machine and my headset on the top of the machine. Will let ya no if it has worked for me :realmad::coffee:;)

same ole shit always comes back,rarely does this occur playing non modded servers.always crashes mw waw so i dont play it nomore.updating creative sound frivers seems to help the most..

that crashes i would get would have a sound loop..id be out but sometimes still hear the game and people talking as id try to reenter...

up date drivers especialy creative sound is my advice...

well i also got this error since i update windows to SP1 tonight,

and i use an external sound card (with updated drivers), so i dont even use onboard sounds at all.

it worked untill today so wtf

i cant even start the game, it show me the screen splash then crash.

k well i reinstalled the game and no luck at all.

i dont even have onboard sound card drivers to update, as i dont use onboard card.

so the plug a mic thing wont work here anyway.

 

the problem is something else then.

 

looks like i wont play COD4 anytime soon

well ive been having this problem alot. but now i cant even log into the game. as soon as i click on the join button i get the error. help

Yea Im having this issue too right now, Tried most of the "solutions" but nothing seems to work. But by the looks of it this isnt just a confined case of this. I run on a laptop with an hd audio device. just trying to update my drivers as there was a new update in june.
