Just click no, or it will reset your game settings to default and you will need to change them again. You will get this error everytime your game crashes. I get this with Pb crashes.

I know I have attempted to help here but some of us have the same thing I for one see it every other day.....

There is a cause but it could be many of the sorts

You have checked your config but have you noticed if your config reflects your system properly

such as gpu and cpu and ram

I did research after your last request for help and the only thing that I can say that has not already been said is 2 things

Cod2 is a AMD lover and not too fond of INTEL

Next would be have you updated your GPU drivers as of late or perhaps upgraded your card some time after the install of the game

and your config file has not recorded the change

Still interested in solving this one

When your game crashes what is the error it gives you? Or what are you doing when it crashes? Various types can be PB, Memory, other software conflicting with game, etc etc or even having the game running in the background and forcing a shutdown will generate this error next time you start the game.

The game does not crash. I say no every time and the error persists.

Ok is the game from disk or steam? @Mr. Crowe

Try this:

Disk:

Right click on your sound icon on your taskbar -> click recording devices -> right click in the window -> click show disabled/disconnected devices -> right click Stereo Mix -> click Enable

Steam:

right click on cod2 in your library in Steam

Choose properties and then the Local Files tab

Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Try these first then restart cod and see if error comes up. Let us know. :)

I am running the game from the hard drive. I did everything prescribed above and the error persists. It might be important to note that I run the audio through a Firewire Audio mixer and then out to my speakers. I haven't used headphones for a while. I'm not sure what happened to my system that makes this error stick. I have had the error in the past and simply clicking no would get rid of it. My comp is a hybrid Mac/Windows comp that I made a few years back. It has been super reliable up until just recently. Don't get me wrong, I can launch and play the game, it's just annoying to have the error message.

Loader, I haven't changes any hardware or updated any drivers. I do have an Intel system but this issue went away before and now it's back consistently.

Ok, I know the audio thing may seem crazy to some, but you will be surprised how many issues are caused by audio lol.

Did the constant error messages start after starting to use firewire?

I'm just trying to figure out if they started after you changed something.

If it wasn't always like this then something has to have changed for it to start throwing these errors. I will keep looking for you but in the mean time try running your audio not using firewire see if that helps.

Also you say your running a hybrid mac/windows machine. What operating system is on the virtual machine? And what operating system was the game brought for?

Eg you have a mac running windows virtual machine, you have done this so that your copy of windows cod2 will run on your Mac.

I'm thinking there maybe an issue with shutting down the game within a virtual machine, that the game thinks that it hasn't been shut down properly everytime you finish playing so it throws the error every start up.

Just spit balling here, I'll get back to you after I do some more searching.

Nitro, There are no virtual machines. I have MacOS loaded on one hd and Windows 7 on another. I choose which to load at start up. The FireWire system has always been there. I run the game on the Windows HD.

During my research regarding this issue, I actually found an article that stated unplugging the headphones and replugging would solve the issue.

Ok got ya now ;)

Yes that can also work lol, I'm guessing you have tried it?

Only other thing I can think of is uninstall the game and reinstall it. Re patch and see if that sorts it out.

Apart from the audio quirks and the fact that you have changed nothing kind of only leaves reinstalling the game.

I'm out of ideas mate, good luck with it. :)
