Hey folks, So, as you know, I like to change the rotation up every three months to keep it fresh. With that comes an issue. Map recycling. There are only a finite number of maps made for the game. What this means is that you will get errors when some maps load. These are "invalid IWD files". Your CoD2 Main folder contains multiple versions of the same map which is conflicting with the one of the server. The server basically goes "okay, you should have Map A here, but I can see it here, and here." It will throw you an error because of this weird mismatch. It comes from more than one map pack having the same map and the server is doing this: MAKE NOTE OF THE FILE IS GIVES YOU IN THE ERROR!! To fix this do this: Go to your CoD2 installation. If you have the original DVD version, something like this: C:\Program Files(x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 2 If you use Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\commonCall of Duty 2 Go into that folder, then into main Find the file and delete it. If you're like me, you keep the main folder clear and only contain the current map packs.

I wouldn't spend too much on it Pain. Minor and we usually have enough admins in to just bump it or swap to a different sniper map. Loved to see a couple new maps today, as well as some older ones we haven't played for some time. Keep up the good work! It is appreciated!

So good news, I can fix the fog. And bad news, I can't fix the fog. There's a line of code in a file that needs to be deleted on the pack on the server (any attempt client side will result in the pack being redownloaded so you match the server): level._effect["fogbank_small_beltot"] =loadfx ("fx/misc/fogbank_small_beltot.efx"); [the .efx file located in iw07.iwd] That will mean nothing to most of you, but BASICALLY the real foggy map has a reference to a fog that is used in the core game. I can delete that reference so it doesn't try to go "yea lets put loads of fog everywhere" OR I can be really dumb and delete the entire fog effect file from the core game files on the server (if all else fails and I am not risking it). I don't have access to the redirect so I can't fix it wihout Loader.This is all also completely hypothetical - I do not have a safe testing environment to try this out.

About time I had a smooth running and I didn't have to skip any maps, and everyone was happy. Never gonna get that again so enjoy it Its every three months but if people want it shorter I can do every two months? we'll see what people think

If it happens again, I'll sort it. I have changed at least two maps so far, and will be changing a third tomorrow because I haven't had the time all week. The main CoD2 server menu is pretty crap so I don't always trust that - i've had servers vanish from there and then come back again like it was nothing. I have noticed that some maps take a while to load, or change - and that has been worrying me. What I'll do before everyone gets in tomorrow is give the rotation one more blast through to check for any hiccups. I am pretty sure I got them all - but doesn't hurt to check. I will also see if I can remove the fog in the maps too; had some complaints about one of the maps being too foggy. It's on my to do list after I've finished doing some studying.

Pain we all are very grateful for everything you do for the COD2 servers. Just one question though, I thought the server locked up on one map on Saturday because it seemed to freeze at the end of a map and I don't remember the maps name but I know I quit the game and had to refresh the main server menu several times before the TDM server showed up again on the list however when I got back in the game was playing and was about half way done. Was this because of it freezing up or was it the end of the rotation? I just ask because if we have a map that is causing it to freeze in the past that map is usually removed from the rotation? Everyone knows that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer but had to bring it up just in case there is a bad map... Again THANK YOU FOR BEING SO DEDICATED and putting up with me

New year, new rotation? Continuing the three month rotation I have in place, I have now created and uploaded the new packs and rotation to the server, ready for everyone to download and get in. !!YOU WILL NEED TO DELETE THE WIN_25 MAP PACKS FROM YOUR COD2/MAIN FOLDER!! I am not responsible for cleaning up your CoD2 main folder. You know the drill. You cannot delete these with the game open. You must have the game closed. If you get an invalid .iwd referenced, remember it and delete it from your CoD2 main folder. I was wondering about the game looking for a mic device, couldn't remember if COD2 behaved the same as COD4 and CODWAW as they too require a mic device plugged.

Thanks Kapt. But it looks like you sent this as I posted it's now working. The HLSW and Rcon also all good! Yeah! One odd thing I can't find to set is my Sprint key setting, Of all things! I Googled it and they say there isn't a setting. But I know it was the END key for me previously. What?! It says to double tap the USE key when standing. So, the END key is my use key and I do seem to go faster when I hit it twice. Must have done so long I forgot - natural!! Hehe. See you all Saturday!

mine not set CoD5 but works Laz the macromedia 8 works from link above, you need to extract to a folder and use the run as admin on the install within that folder. same as game install.exe run as admin should be fine, for i tested it on win11 shoulb good with wi 10. the barron background noise is he not like true about AI Barron, when search some and next day your spammed with ad's of your search ? remember i talk out of my ass

Hooray. So, I have had success getting my old CDs working again. All I had to do, oddly enough, was plug in my headset! Go figure! So, I have tested our TDM site and all works. However, I couldn't use my old ONLINE game name, since that old name is a different install key. So, I added an underscore in my online name. Only affects stats, but don't care. I assume I'll need to get "re-linked" to HLSW and/or Rcon. ??? I will test and see, but I can at least play again! old name: LtLaszlo>XI<Adm new name: Lt_Laszlo>XI<Adm

Thanks guys. I have all of the files, setup.exe, then the multi or single player .exe to XP, SP2. I installed a Flash Player, but version 8. No luck. Started wondering about Direct X and found no folder for it. Tried to install the .exe in the Direct X on the install disk, but even in XP, SP2 compatibility, it says won't run under my version of Windows (10, Pro). Looks like I'll be buying from Steam. $20.00, no issue. Another interesting thing, I installed a second time, but during the install, I didn't get the photo slide shows that changes with the install music. ?? WTF. Why would that change.

Hey Laz. I run COD2 on windows 11 and have the compatibility mode set in the .exe. Try that.

Sorry to hear but I have an alternative that will save you a tonne of time. Update. So I was able to locate and install a version of Macromedia Flash 8.0. It's registered and got running, but no help. Game starts to boot, then back to main PC screen and no message/error. Any ideas? Maybe some Steam remnants, but it was uninstalled and removed from registry, as well.

So, on Thanksgiving, some MFer hacked into numerous of my accounts, including Amazon, Ebay and Paypal, as well as many others. He even hacked my phone to get my second authentications forwards to further his hack. Fortunately, I caught these fairly quickly and stopped many. He actually got to my 401K, but fortunately, Fidelity saw it a threat and locked my account. All good now, except for my Disney+ account on TV (low priority) and Steam. And since Steam has ZERO phone support, they SUCK. If I must, I will need to get a new Steam account using another name and email ( I can use my wife's email). I would then need to buy again, which is ok. Usually cheap. But, first I am trying to get the original CDs working. I gave up on this way back and is why I even had the Steam version. I have tried to submit support, but won't even take it, because it says it can only process one claim at a time - so apparently, the new guy has one in. He changed his email (p*******.o*******.c** - not me) and I think is requesting to change the name to Laszlo B Sjl (added the Sjl). I did get the account recovered last week, which is how I could play last weekend. But, here I am again. This fucker needs a bat to the teeth! Anyway, the CD install all went well, except I got one error. I had to ignore for the time to figure out what is needed. I've updated COD2 to patch 1.3, the game does try to start, the COD2 soldier appears for a few seconds, but then crashes back to my PC screen with no error or message. So, I believe I need a Macromedia Flash installed. After some research, it says I should have a Macromedia folder in my Program Files (x86) folder. However, I also learned Macromedia is no longer supported or used in most modern apps. Anybody had this issue? How to get the correct Macro Flash version for COD2 Again, I can buy again under a new account with Steam, iff necessary. I had very few games in Steam (cause I hate it!). He can have the old account. I want to play this weekend, dammit!! LOL
