It's not just the postal service, but all shippers have price matched each other. Most companies that sell a lot of merchandise have special contracts that allow for huge discounts in shipping costs. If you are buying from a company online that charges high prices for shipping even though they sell a lot of merchandise, they are probably ripping you off. Try shopping around on web sites like Amazon.com where you can often find free shipping and lower prices on the very same items. TBB and ChknFngr 2 Awards

Things like dimensional weight can easily add $5-$10 per package. Can't forget the commercial versus residential fee. And you can't ignore the fuel surcharge they tack on. A consumer doesn't see that. It's added to the shippers weekly bill based on volume. Also, the restrictions on what can be shipped via which service has increased cost and reduced service. If a product could somehow be considered hazardous, and the carrier could somehow put it aboard an aircraft, the shipper has to be able to route the package via a ground only option. Something like a 1/2 oz. of nail polish forces the package to go via ground. If it doesn't get routed via ground and a hazardous item is found, the FAA shuts you down and imposes big $$$ fine. Probably more that I've forgotten. little_old_man 1 Awards
