  1. The main reason being that Windows 8 will include its own store, rendering the likes of Steam (which Valve owns) obsolete. I have yet to see anything that commends W8 to anyone who doesn't want to run it on other than a tablet. That being said, the guy's thinking of his company's interests above everything else.
  2. I don't know where you read that but it's fiction. They aren't. The Border Agency officers who check passports at the airports were going on strike but that has now been called off. (Only 20% of their union members bothered to vote in the ballot and just over half voted to strike so it was no big deal anyway.) Their grouse was that their members are being made redundant (1,000 too many in the last year) leaving Heathrow and oher places unable to cope!
  3. Though I am struggling to find something in this post relevant to either the Olympic Games or theft of charities' cash by government for non-charitable purposes, the final suggestion is common sense. By law, all charities in the UK have to file their accounts with the Charities Commission and they are accessible online for scrutiny. Donors can see how much is taken in overheads. However, it is a convenient cop-out for some to make non-specific allegations of fraud or waste against charities in general to somehow validate their personal decision not to donate for the benefit of their fellow man. That is their decision and it requires no justification until they stand before God for judgment. Shamu, your description of charities serving to keep people "unemployed and useless" is ridiculous. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
  4. I am accused of being a "grumpy git" due to my complete lack of enthusiasm for anything connected with the Olympics. In addition to despising the way that money has been appropriated, I see them as contaminated by the politicians and corporate sponsors like Coca Cola and McDonalds. It is nauseating to watch Prime Minister Macaroon and "Mad Boris" talking about them on TV. So, though it'll hurt them not a bit, I shall boycott the Games.
  5. Welcome to the forums, mate!
  6. As you admire the stadium, the velodrome, the water sports centre, the Olympic Village etc etc, consider how they were paid for and the people in need who will now not receive help because the Games stole the charity cash to fund the building works. The government now says the money will not be refunded till the 2020s! This is shameful! "London 2012 Olympics: Charities who lost funding to pay for the Games 'won’t see their money for another decade' Money diverted from charity funding to pay towards the cost of the London 2012 Olympics will not be returned to hard-pressed voluntary groups until the mid-2020s, it has emerged." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/london-2012/9366935/London-2012-Olympics-Charities-who-lost-funding-to-pay-for-the-Games-wont-see-their-money-for-another-decade.html
  7. It happens occasionally here too but only during downloads of maps...
  8. Should make for an interesting Olympics. BTW England, looks like you have done a fine job in preparation. Some awesome sites that will serve well into the future after the Olympics. The so-called "legacy" is dubious at best and restricted to London. There has already been much wrangling about the use of the stadium after the games. The Olympic village is to be converted to housing - not public housing so cue another influx of yuppies with a million quid in their back pockets. In short, I expect the legacy for the country to be equal to what the Games have so far provided - zero.
  9. I'm sorry to see that the futile fantasies are continuing yet it's not been easy to find mention of the relief effort in Colorado. However, for those who agree that the way to fight evil is with love, the following links may be of interest: http://www.coloradocrimevictims.org/ COVA has, apparently, been nominated by Aurora PD to receive donations in aid of the victims. http://www.examiner.com/article/the-performing-arts-community-reacts-to-the-aurora-shooting “the answer to pain is love. The answer to violence is love. The answer to hatred is love. The answer to fear is love. The answer to anguish is love. The answer to confusion is love. Fierce loving, people…..today is a good day to use it.”
  10. The most important thing is to accept the outcome and never let anything come between you and your brother. Your love for each other is very important. You have to be there for each other forever. Share in each other's triumphs and comfort one another when things don't work out.

    Hi

Welcome to the forums and hope you have a lot of fun on the BF3 servers. If you have the games, please do also visit the COD4 and COD5 servers, where you'll receive a similar welcome and experience a similarly eccentric gaming experience! Our emphasis is on having fun - join us in Teamspeak too!
  12. Thank the Lord you are OK! If you work around high voltage, surely there are procedures to keep you safe? Over here, such an incident would require filing a report to the Health & Safety Executive; is this being reported to OSHA?
  13. During WW2, it became the only miniature armoured train in the world: http://www.rhdr.org.uk/pages/history.html
  14. Happy Birthday, Bob!
  15. That displayed great confidence that the train was not a passenger service with toilets that discharged between the rails... Such access to the rails themselves is illegal here - trespass on the railway - and with good reason as most lines are electrified. However, our local railway is a little different here...(with the emphasis on little !):
  16. BF3 looks a bit "Walt Disney" when you play, Cheese!
  17. Will keep some fresh coconuts for your return, mate! Enjoy yourself!
  18. The only meaningful and positive reaction to a horrific event such as this, I agree. I'm sure the various reactions voiced in this thread are common around the country and the world, reflecting the shock, grief, anger and puzzlement that always follows a massacre of the innocent. I think it is inevitable that both sides of the gun debate will have their say but it won't bring back those killed or heal the wounds of those that have survived. The fact is that the founding fathers made that great nation's bed and, for better or for worse, the American public have to sleep in it. Countries such as my own, that have strict gun control laws, are not immune from similar mass homicides - Hungerford (1987) and Dunblane (1996) are examples, the latter involving the killing of 16 schoolchildren and 1 adult. Not granting licences/ permits to people who have suffered mental health problems in the past may/may not be a preventative measure as the human mind is a strange thing and a previously untroubled individual can suffer an abrupt breakdown or illness triggered by various factors. All I would say is that a great evil has occurred and all the fantasising about what one would do to the perpetrator just feeds evil further. It's hard, I know, but why not focus on the plight of the victims and their families, pray for them, support them and radiate your love and compassion. They need all the help and prayers that can be given to get through this experience.
  19. I am really looking forward to this as it appears there'll be plenty of potential for the occasional hilarious moment! Don't expect my kdr to change much in the near future! LOL!
  20. Congratulations and thank you for your service to the clan!
