  1. And a very Merry Christmas to you and yours, Baldie! Things are slow getting going here - the Mrs finished work today and we had to do the shopping afterwards. Our son is working (hotel) on Christmas Day too. We are meeting up with US relatives (from pwrcrzy52's home territory!) this afternoon for a bite to eat before they head north to other relations. I plan to sit down for tonight's televised Midnight Mass with a glass (or two) of port and should be in the festive spirit then! Wish all Idiots and forum users a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and contented New Year.
  2. Have you checked the registry for errors, Markoff?

  7. coolmd That has kinda shit on my POST...lol.... Oh well..another one bites the Dust................... There is a naval use of the word "monkey". According to Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase & Fable, a "monkey" was a vessel containing the full allowance of grog for a mess. Its other meanings are £500 (English) or $500 (US), a mortgage and a military policeman. The book also says that the Dutch use the phrase "sucking the monkey" meaning drinking!
  8. This appears to be an urban legend doing the rounds again. Have a look at the wiki and make your own mind up: " It is often stated that the phrase originated from the use of a brass tray, called a "monkey", to hold cannonballs on warships in the 16th to 18th centuries. Supposedly, in very cold temperatures the "monkey" would contract, causing the balls to fall off.[11] However, nearly all historians and etymologists consider this story to be an urban legend. This story has been discredited by the U.S. Department of the Navy,[12] etymologist Michael Quinion, and the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).[13] They give five main reasons: The OED does not record the term "monkey" or "brass monkey" being used in this way. The purported method of storage of cannonballs ("round shot") is simply false. Shot was not stored on deck continuously on the off-chance that the ship might go into battle. Indeed, decks were kept as clear as possible. Furthermore, such a method of storage would result in shot rolling around on deck and causing a hazard in high seas. Shot was stored on the gun or spar decks, in shot racks—longitudinal wooden planks with holes bored into them, known as shot garlands in the Royal Navy, into which round shot were inserted for ready use by the gun crew. Shot was not left exposed to the elements where it could rust. Such rust could lead to the ball not flying true or jamming in the barrel and exploding the gun. Indeed, gunners would attempt to remove as many imperfections as possible from the surfaces of balls. The physics does not stand up to scrutiny. The contraction of both balls and plate over the range of temperatures involved would not be particularly large. The effect claimed possibly could be reproduced under laboratory conditions with objects engineered to a high precision for this purpose, but it is unlikely it would ever have occurred in real life aboard a warship." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brass_monkey_%28colloquial_expression%29
  9. Shit... Coulda saved a shit-load of cash today as me and the boy went to the jeweller...

  11. Sonovabich You are dropping the tags but will still play here?, i don't get the logic but it is your choice Hans, good luck. +1 I'll soon be best clan pilot in BF3 at this rate!
  12. SOB, I use Tinyurl because long URLs do not wrap and remain intact on the forums. I use the preview form of the tinyurl so the reader can see the full URL of the target before they proceed to the site. The redirect works fine here so I don't know what is wrong with your browser... So others are not dissuaded from reading the article, here's a picture of the intermediate screen they'd see:
  13. I guess right-clicking the desktop and playing with the icon size doesn't help? For the program that displays/ saves off your rig's spec, how about the free offering from Piriform called Speccy? www.piriform.com

  15. Seems US FedEx share some traits with colleagues in other companies and countries... If you think that's bad, here's a picture of what one postman thought was a "safe place" to leave a parcel when we were out, one day. (The expected practice is for him to take the parcel back to the delivery office, leaving a card inviting redelivery or collection from the office.) These wheelie bins are what we put our domestic refuse (garbage) for landfill into and they are emptied every two weeks so you can imagine what they get like inside... Fortunately, the contents of the parcel were not for consumption or I would have made a claim for compensation. I complained, and received an apology and a book of postage stamps for my trouble! At our last home, I watched from the doorstep as the delivery driver dropped and rolled $400-worth of HP All-in-One across my front lawn. The thing is heavy and that's why HP put it in a box with two hand holds but he reckoned one was sufficient... Of course, the box just ripped and he dropped it. Amazingly the thing was intact after all that abuse! The way I look at it, if these guys had much processing power between the ears, they'd work for NASA not as courier drivers...
  16. Congratulations! Now you get the clap...
  17. Sonovabich That brought a lump to my throat, it would be great if it did hit the no1 spot but we all know that fucker Cowell will throw his toys out of the pram again if he don't get it.
