I had some friends in Sau Saint Marie Michigan that I used to go party with (They always had some good herb)...When the song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald came out a bunch of his friends from the Canadian side of the bridge came over and wanted to throw a party in honor of the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald...Everyone got wasted and the party got loud and out of hand and was busted...When the cops found out what the party was for they broke up the party and let everyone go (minus the dope)...Never heard of the cops there giving anyone a free pass before that or since...
Boy does this bring back memories. In 1975 I covered the St. Lawrence Seaway Develop. Corp. for my hometown newspaper in Ogdensburg, NY where Earnest McSorley, captain of the Edmund Fitzgerald, also grew up. When she went down, I was writing sidebar stories of the sinking on the local connection.
