Yea but it still bugs me that to turn all that off people out there had to come up with ways to do it. And then release their own programs to do so because the methods are somewhat confusing to the average user. That is the problem. MS said nothing and doesnt want you to turn it off. When you have to possibly use registry hacks to do it, something an average user should touch, then something is wrong. edit: Also nice of you to call people concerned about strict privacy as paranoid.

All it does it give you early access to that map/level/whatever by one week. My answer to them is 'so what'.

Uploaded a small change to beta9. Anyone can revive a player from second chance but it requires one health pack to do so. As before, you can only be revived a maximum of three times. On the fourth you are dead. I will try to get on the server this evening if anyone wants to try it out and check out the maps. Some really cool ones I think.

Kinda funny but when I go to bed and its really late I often see some minor activity on my modem. I have occasionally turned on the computer to make sure my signal wasnt being stolen. Even tho access is limited by MAC address. Turns out it was likely either my streaming box (even tho it was put to sleep) or my DVR. Do you by chance have the Amazon streaming box? It had a bug with one of the screensaver settings where instead of using the pictures already stored it would continually stream images.

Not quite right. It can disable games that use the Games for 'Windows' method. Many not MS games do.

Do you have a wireless router? Check to see if anyone is stealing your bandwidth. Around here the speed for my connection can fluctuate pretty wildly depending on the time of day and which day. The growth in the number of users in my area has outpaced upgrades in the infrastructure and as always when everyone hops on then speeds drop. Late afternoon and early evenings are the worst especially when everybody is streaming or playing games. After 11pm-12am speed is pretty consistent.

That all says much more about people that respond to polls more than anything else. And why so many polls are shit. Only one thing can make this better. That is on primary day. See if there are any people that publicly complain that Deez Nuts isnt on the ballot.

Map rotation of the day for beta 9. None of them crashed on me. Please give feedback on which ones are likely not going to work well on a 30-player ftag server so I can add a notation to the list. Some may work well but spawnpoints may be bad for one side of the other. Too big or small. Wider open maps, good for assault or sniping are ok. They cant all be village maps, Stuff like that.Thx. Not in this case. Linux servers for cod4 has some pretty bad map file size compatibility problems.

I am thinking most of the map problems are mismatch conflicts between the server and redirect. Had to reupload a few of them this evening due to similar issues with the maptest server. But different maps. So likely there are others. There are a huge number of maps to take care of and there are always things that are not correct. The one exception is Strike. I dont know why that one wasnt working. Unless the map itself got corrupted. That does happen and sometimes a game iwd need to be reinstalled. If you look it up 'iw_06.iwd' tends to happen the most. Could also have been that one of the mod iwds (which are just zip archives) had something wrong with it. Sometimes all you can do is start over.

So far... and I am being careful about this... the maptest server beta9 seems to be stable during basic tests. Also, the problem maps with the infinite downloads I am in the process of reuploading them to the redirect as needed. The four or five I did like desert dock *seem* to be ok now. Or I should say, they loaded for me without incident. I already had them and it didnt try and download them again. It is late and I am tired so I couldnt go through all the rotation to check for problems. However I am leaving the server online for anyone that wants to download the b9 mod and the maps. Will be around tomorrow to check things out further. Additional info: For the most part beta9 is only an incremental update. No major changes. Yes on this one Hardwired was moved to perk 3 so you can have both that and Hardline.
