Thank-you all for your congratulations I am now qualified to break everything and call myself a professional
-
I have now graduated from University with a first class degree with honors in Computer Science. I will be expecting a pay rise.

As the tutorial stated, the files need to go in the PB folder in the game directory.

Follow the following tutorial and you should have no problems. http://www.xtremeidiots.com/page/public/bible/_/xi-website/punkbuster-installation-for-call-of-duty-r24

You haven't seen the admin forums.. all the information is already there, they are idiots so don't understand it The reason I say small program is that it doesn't take much to do what we need.. just enough that the admins only need to click a few buttons and the rest is worked out for them.

@@Mummmbl3s The latest version of pbsvc.exe can always be sourced from the Evenbalance website. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=pbsvc.exe The download is located on the first page that appears in the search results: http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsvcfaq.php I am not concerned over the legitimacy of the file as I can see that it is digitally signed by Evenbalance, just it is better to use the latest version of the pbsvc.exe as it will still be updated and therefore there will be bug fixes and support for newer operating systems. The Punkbuster services are independent of the Punkbuster game files. Even balance has stopped updating the game files but they will still update the services. As I posted earlier all the files required are located in the downloads section of this website and instructions are on a walk through here: http://www.xtremeidiots.com/page/public/bible/_/xi-website/punkbuster-installation-for-call-of-duty-r24

The idea I have is not to read directly from the files but to manage their playback. The problem most people face with demos is ensuring the have the correct mod and map and then loading the demo up. The idea would be something like this: Admin records a hacker and then bans the player Admin opens the application, selects the demo they recorded and clicks upload They may have to select the mod and map depending if there is no programmatic way of doing it Once uploaded they can then add the demo identifier or link to the ban thread Other admins can then download the demo and play it The playback of the demos would need to ensure that the mod and map are on the clients computer and then load up the game. If there are no executable arguments for the demo selection and playback then we will have to implement a bind system where the admin then presses a key which loads the demo. Converting a demo to a video is an arduous process as the only method seems to be converting to screenshots and then to an .avi

Essentially with Xfire going down and to be honest a discussion in the COD5 admin forums it has come to my attention that a streamlined method of recording/sharing/viewing demos is needed. The basics of what I have in mind are a C# windows form that contains: A config checker that will write the necessary binds to the config file that allows the in game recording Local repository viewer that displays the current demos Remote repository viewer that displays the demos that have been shared Ability to upload/download demos to/from the remote repository Forum integration to control access and link demo to admin The ability to load the game+demo without the need of the admin to type a load of commands Auto download if the mod or map that the demo was for does not exist on the clients computer Supporting COD2/4/5 They are the main features I am going after, I will create a GIT repository for development. I would like this to have as many contributors as possible as it needs to be done fairly quickly and I do not have much time.

@@Sonovabich Yeah chat as in typing In my eyes communication wise we currently have: Forums for many user communication and in depth discussion. Teamspeak for voice communication Which reduces the requirements of the replacement to Xfire. We had already dropped Xfire as a requirement for membership and has made it that members needed to have either Xfire, Steam or Origin and the admins added to them. The key points we used Xfire for that the replacement needs to have are: Ability to contact online admins, this means non-members will require access Group chat between admins or certain parties One to one chat between people One of the big uses was videos for banning people which I would now like to remove all together and instead solely use the demo system. This would mean creating an alternate system for admins that facilitated this. I think we need something that everyone should use regardless of the games they play and therefore think we should go with something that is dedicated to chat rather than games. I also think we need something that can be installed optionally and if someone doesn't want to install it they could use it in a browser or the like. It's a tricky thing to replace here and as I have said to the seniors I do not want us to rush to a replacement but discuss where to go.

I am looking for anyone who would be interested in writing a small C# application, you would be working with me to create an application that facilitates the recording of demos, uploading/downloading of demos and playing of the demos through the game application. Just if anyone is interested.. anyone?
-
Maybe it's time that we should start looking at a new system to communicate with. I know we have Steam and Origin but we really need something that is quicker than the website but all admins and all game types could use. I know we don't need to change right now but this has shown that Xfire is downgrading and therefore there is more of a risk that they will cut it off all together. One thought I did have was that we could setup a IRC server for XI, that way we could have a chat system that all members could connect to, we could have it on both the website and people have the option of downloading. Never set one up though - just an idea. Anyone else have any ideas?

@@Mummmbl3s Not sure where you sourced that pbsvc.exe but it is not the latest version from Evenbalance. The file you uploaded was digitally signed at: 20 December 2011 22:59:04 The latest version was digitally signed at: 03 June 2014 00:19:56 If people use it then it may cause them problems. The latest version can be sourced from the downloads section of this website or from the Evenbalance website directly.

Game of Thrones is an amazing show never heard of Banshee.. I have watched GOT twice on my own and am currently in different stages of watching it with two sets of different people as well as watching the latest ones, it quite literally has everything you could want in a series. @Sammy http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/08/11/the-many-deaths-of-sean-bean He never lives long.. other than in Sharpe

@@Sonovabich Do you have a USB stick, minimum of 4GB? or if not that a blank DVD? The process of performing a clean install of any operating system is generally this: Download the .ISO of the operating system you will be installing Place that .ISO on an external device If it is a DVD burn the .ISO to it (Windows 7 has software pre-installed) If it is a USB use WinRAR (or other software) and extract the contents to the USB Restart your computer and use the BIOS or Boot Manager to boot from your DVD or USB Follow the instructions During the installation you can then format the drive, you cannot format the drive from the operating system that is running from the drive.. that would be a self destruct and it wouldn't like it. You can mount the .ISO on a virtual drive and do it that way but it is harder to recover from if a problem occurs during install.

I had forgotten about that was messing around with it a few months back, apart from that there are no ads -
You will be able to download the ISO, you can run this from a USB which will then allow you to format any drive to install the OS onto. I prefer not to perform 'upgrades' as they are not usually great but as they are pushing for 99% of people to be using the upgrades system it will be robust and you should have no problems using it.

Hmm try checking your DX version and maybe installing using https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 I had one issue with DyingLight where DX12 may have been causing issues and using that download it worked.

For those concerned over game compatibility I can confirm that Call of Duty 4 runs great. No issues with install or Punkbuster.

What I mean is they are aggressive with it's use you can go to Google or use another search engine but for stuff like the search in the task bar it seems to use Bing and I am not sure on how to change it yet. See screenshot.

I wouldn't take what anyone says on these forums as pure fact not news websites, hell, not even my own posts. Look for yourself on the Microsoft website for the true story. The offer is good for one year, once done you have it for as long as they support it. Anti-viruses will be one of the programs that require updating to work as they use OS functionality for scanning, they will of course have to update whereas most programs will run fine. Do you actually use media player? I have always used VLC for DVDs - I wouldn't call that 'special' software. The news article cites: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-specifications as its source which says things slightly differently They don't do it purposefully and that is the case for all operating systems, I apply similar updates to the Linux systems I run as well as to the Windows systems. There was rumour that they would allow free upgrades to those using bootleg versions but as it is not mentioned anywhere on their website I would say those rumours have been falsified. Wahoo.. someone read my post
