Interesting Observation Regarding Ping During Game Play
MikeB replied to little_old_man's topic in General Discussion
You are correct ping is about location. Think of ping as a "radar ping". Its the amount of time it takes your signal to reach its destination and return. Tweaking settings can help drop your ping a little, but very little if any. Your ping can go up for several reasons, one being "traffic". All cable , dsl users acess "nodes". Think of node as a big ass router that handles different households. If your the only household on that node at a given point your ping theorectically will be lower. You may be experiencing more users on your local node then in previous years. Also the adding of cable lines in your area and others close by can cause signals to be re-routed differently then before. Im in Midwest Ohio and fairly close to the servers and Im lucky to be in the booneys with a node 100 yards from me (not many users either). So my ping is fairly consistant and low. Now there are other COD2 players that live around the Cincy area (75 miles south of me) and farther away from the servers, YET, their ping is half of mine. Its because they have a straight shot to Chicago, were as even though Im closer, my signal zigs zags. So there are many variables. -
I Am Seriously In The Market For A Decent Headset!
MikeB replied to BigPapaDean's topic in Computer Help
With any wireless connection there is a latency (delay) issue, no way around it. With minimal sound delay wouldnt or shouldnt effect game play. Now with control devices, mice, joystick, etc.. then the small delay would be noticable. Thats why the best gaming keyboards, mice, etc.. are wired. I personally wouldnt go wireless headphones. -

If you want the best at a descent price, then any of the Sennheiser Gaming Headsets will suffice. But alas they are wired. But wired to me, is the only way to go. Sennheiser makes some of the best audiophile headphones available. Plus they will fit that big head of yours !!! -
Jello shots are a food staple at our house. Best jello flavor is the hard to find .... Watermellon .... flavor.

The One And Only Topic About My Music! Over 20 Songs Now
MikeB replied to RustyRifle's topic in General Discussion
you mean you need a singer? how far have you got with the progress? you do it in a studio?.....well im up for it just tell me what and when I can have a rough mix done by the end of the week. I can send you a link to a wave when done. It will be a music mix, no vocals. Do as you see fit. Just make sure when your done, you send me how ever many vocal tracks you have. This will be a dry mix, and be sure to not use any plugins and leave me at least 6 - 10db of headroom. So do me a lead vocal and some background vocals. I'll do some takes too and then I can mix them all up. Take you time with it. -

Nice stuff. Im workin on a cover of Foreigners "Blue Monday". Will need some vocals tracks , backing and lead if you want to try. If you dont feel up for the lead, then at least some of the background vocals. Let me know. -
Sounds cool. My layout has changed some. Pictures above are old. I was getting soo much stuff I had to consolidate equipment and LP's. Didnt get rid of stuff, just retired and packed up shit I have not used in a while. My wife says Im a gear horder, and I guess I am. My live room actually sounds pretty good, especially the room mics. I have 10' ceilings so that helps. I do need to make a few more acoustic traps and place about 6 of them through-out the live room. The control/mixing room is treated and mixes translate well. Looking foward to seeing your pictures.

Here are a few pics of my man cave/studio. Its actually a 32 x 64 garage I put up a few years ago. Half is for cars and the other the studio. Some of the pictures are older. I have added some new guitars and amps since these. Agree on a place to escape !!! My kids are all grown though so I dont have any rugrats running around And when the record light is on everyone stays out, so ... its always on The live room is roughly 30 x 32 and the control room is around 10 x12. Im using a Mackie 1640i as my interface. Started with the older Mackie 1640 and when the 1640i came out I grabbed it up. Nice clean preamps and great AD/DA converters. I use the aux channels on the mixer to send 6 independant audio mixes to the live room for musicians. Works quite well. Old picture showing control room from live room. I need to take some new ones. This is a picture right after we finished it up and started moving stuff in. My son on drums and a friend of his on guitar. From 2006 I believe. Record and Reel to Reel collection and break area. Outside pictures (summer and winter). Its heated so it stays warm.

Cod2 Dm Background Music Suggestion...

OMG I love Herb Alpert !!! I grew up with this music !!!!! The Whipped Cream album caused quite the stir with conservatives back then. -
What size HD you need. I have a few older ones. Probably 160gigs. Also if its an older system, the battery may be an issue. PM me if interested in one of the small drives. I never throw components away, so I have alot of older stuff.

Yes, if you currently run 7 I would stick with it. But XP and Vista users would benefit. Unless your in the music industry (Studio, Self Recording Musician), then I wouldnt even attemp it. Many VST Plugins and other compiled plugins will not work in 8. Let alone the inteface drivers. Audio drivers for professional gear is just now becoming stable for 7. Many studio still use XP because of lack of support from certain vendors. But at $14.99 to upgrade from 7 to 8, well, its tempting. Like I said easy fixes for users who like the "Start Menu". Hell some may love the new "Metro" interface. Now the $40 upgrade for Vista and XP users is a no brainer.
-
Finally got the Audio Visualizers to work. Had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the programs. Work fine. The "ClassicShell" program which install a "Start" feature in 8 works great. You can choose an XP, Vista or 7 version of the "Start" menu. And its completely customizable (add features or remove them). So now all is good and everything works, even my old programs form the Win98 days. To me if you are still running XP or Vista, its a no-brainer, go ahead and upgrade. Especially with the great upgrade price MS will be offering. Windows 7 users, I would wait. The lack of a "Start" menu is easily fixed and the "Metro" bullshit screen can be bypassed with the "Start" menu fixes that are available. Several companies offer or will offer programs to give you the "Start" menu. But the "regedit" fix of the beta versions is not available in the consumer release. Microsoft deleted the code all together. Of the 3 fixes (programs) I looked at, 2 you pay for, I liked the open source "ClassicShell" best, plus its free and there are different skins available. So for now if you have 7, hold off. If you have XP or Vista, go for it.
