this true...but what some dont realize is that power surge protectors wont always save you from lightning strike...as with what happend to me was lightning struck my cable line...but again weird part was it didnt fry the modem...it skippd my modem and fried my router..that was the weird part lol..as it would have gone thru modem first but modem was spared....how that happens who in the fuck knows..but it did to me lol...
best course of action is during a bad lightning severe thunder storm is to unplug pc from wall...and disconnect all internet cables and unplug all routers and modems..this is the best protection ever! this is what i do in case of severe lightning...i cant afford to replace anything...this is what i do since my lightning strike experience...
The main reason the modem survives is its power supply and the way it handles excess voltage so nine times out of ten it will work after a severe power surge....
I have seen cable tv boxies survive yet tv and sound systems fry and I am told its all down to the internal set up of these and modems...They let excess voltage through and out into your comp or tv ect ect
