I run Malware bytes every week, use ccleaner once a day, and JKDefrag (much better than the windows program) every once in a while to defragment and fix registry errors.  Advanced System Care is a memory hog, I used it for about a week on my netbook and it was terrible.  I switched to Panda Cloud on the netbook and PCTools on the desktops and am very satisfied.

superantispyware

Defraggler for defragging

There are many free programs for anti-virus

Do not use AVE 2011. It sets up and then ..nothing. Will do a daily update no matter how you set it. Randomly starts scanning even during mid-game. Absolute SHIT. I used to swear by AVG :(

If you really think you have a virus, D/L KAV-rescue-2008.iso (or any other Linux based bootable disks) .Boot off of it and let it update and GO!  Even tho it's linux based, it's just a matter of following prompts. Might take an hour or so to run so be patient.

If you use AVG you may as well open your PC and take a dump in it as well.

I have used the free version of Avast for a long time, considered purchasing it even. It has a real time scanner and warns you before the file gets into your PC while browsing the net and stops the connection.
