Turn User Account Control on or off

User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users.

  1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts.

  2. Click Turn User Account Control on or off. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  3. Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box to turn on UAC, or clear the check box to turn off UAC, and then click OK.

User Acount Control (UAC) although quite anoying is a really good security feature and is probably one of the best things that Micro$oft have done for a long time,

It adopts a method used a lot under Linux where to perform any tasks that may affect your program files or operating system files requires you to "Allow" it,

this should mean that all those old viral softwares that installed to the program files folder should no longer be able to do this because it stops and asks for your permission.

In short no.  This feature does exactly what Phantom said.  It prevents access until you say yes.  If you went into UAC and selected Never, then all it's doing is turning this feature off, and will never ask you again.  Other than that, it doesn't touch any files, oor make any changes to programs.

This feature can be useful in a home environment, but is a big pain in the ass administering at work.  When I build machines at work, we always turn this off.

Chillie, in faireness Microsoft brought it out for the "hard of thinking"...    As you always say, If a program pops up asking you to do something, say no, and STOP GOING TO THOSE DAMN PORN SITES!!!

ya i got same shit, when turning uac off, it deleted all my profiles, everything. unless its stored somewhere else

wtf is wrong with microshit srly

anyway, for some reasons, it stored the profiles under:

C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players

check there kush, right click on 'players' folder copy and paste it in the C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare folder

lets hope it wont delete it again, but in case just copy that 'players' folder in a safe place before rebooting.
