  1. My favorite weapon in COD4 MWD DM is the Sarich 308. But where is it? The only way I can use that weapon is to take it off a dead guy. Players tell me to simply select it from "Choose Class" but it's not in the list. Here's what I see after I select Auto-Assign.
I reloaded COD 4 on a new system last year. Did I perhapps leave out a file/upgrade?

  2. Thanks guys for your help. I really appreciate it.

I am up and running with COD5 and COD4 on the new system. There is no way in hell to install the games from Steam and run them that I could find using dozens of suggestions that were more than a decade old. So, it was back to my original discs for both games, which stall on loading them in registering components. I fould an old suggestion that worked. Copy the original disc to a folder on the C drive and install it from there. Why does it work there, and not from the optical drive? Who knows. But it's great to be assurred that I'll be gaming for a few more years and it's great that there are always clan members ready to help.

    Thanks again!!!

I'm sure there are still updates .

So I have the same, Win11 pro. If you downloaded from Steam, I'm at a loss why it works for you and not for me. Last resort will be to fully uninstall and try again. Here's what I've tried since yesterday, with no luck:

    1.
    - Not a perm fix, but If you want to play without saving your profile: start MP (as admin?) and go to options > multiplayer > cd key, and enter it.
    - select co-op/single from menu. When it loads create/load a profile. Now you can switch back to MP to play, but your data is lost on exit 😕
    2.
    Step 1: Launch CoDWaW
Step 2, press ctrl alt and delete at the same time to open a menu
Step 3, Open task manager, Kill CoDWaW
Step 4 Launch the game, It should ask you to run in "Safe Mode"
Step 5, Run in safe mode
    Step 6 Create a profile
    3.
    - Under players\profiles, (users, appdata, local, activision\codwaw\players\profiles) delete everything. Create folder HarryWezer and edit active.txt to replace $$$ with HarryWezer.
    - Right click on steam icon and select run as administrator. Then go to game folder, and right click on codwaw.exe for single player and multiplayer and select run as administrator.
-open steam as admin. Then start game NOT from steam, but from game folder, as admin. Now your profile should load.
    4.
    - Port forward to 28960. The ports are 28960 on tcp and udp, and 3074 on udp only.
    - Launch multiplyer game (NOT from Steam)
    - Enter CD key in game. Validate it.
    - Exit game.
    - Start game again as per above, and create profile.

Baron: I believe the 1.7 version of the iw3mp.exe is a patch for COD4. My problems are with COD5.

My mistake, That indeed was a COD5 patch. It was released eight years ago. Would Steam still be selling COD5 without it?

WORKING FIX FOR THE ONLINE PROFILE [EN/FR]

    [EN]
Hey, I finally found a way to play online on Steam if you bought after 2021. First, you will need to have a working key. You can buy one online or you can buy the retail version and use the key that come with it. The key will only be working if it come from the box game or if the person is selling his steam registry key that he bought before 2021. I bought one online and bought the retail version and both worked. You only have to make sure that the key you bought was created before 2021 or come from the box game. You don't have to worry if its the retail version cuz they are all working. When you have the working key you need to replace the steam one with the working one in the registry editor at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Activision\Call of Duty WAW.
The key to change is "Codkey". You have to remove the hyphen otherwise the key will not work. The only problem is when you launch the game Steam will change the key every time. To fix that you need to remove permission of changing the key of all users. Right click on the Call of Duty WAW folder in the registry editor and click Permissions. After that you need to uncheck every permissions of all users except Read. Apply the settings and launch the game and you will be able create a profile if you did it correctly.

ps If changing the registry you know to write down every change, and keep it, just in case

Really appreciate your help with this. I looked at this too, but Steam's version is not putting hyphens in my key. The closest I've come to a fix is reaming the profiles folder to old.profiles, creating a new profiles folder, then creating a folder under that with the ingame I want to use. Then, edited ative.txt to put the player name in that. Launched the game and in multiplayer, it shows me with the name I used but as offline. When I try to go online, it asks for a new profile and whatever I attempt to use, it refuses to create it.

What amazes me is that no one has found a fix for this yet that I can discover. I'm sure it's fixable. I'll keep at it.

If I remember correctly I read somewhere it will not run multiplayer unless punkbuster is installed and activated, even though not used, worth a check, meanwhile I'll keep thinking.

    Found this @HarryWeezer

Currently the best way to fix this if there is nothing wrong with your key is to simply end the CodWaW.exe (or CodWaWMP.exe) task, then launch the game again which should prompt it to launch in safe mode.. Once in safe mode you should be able to create a profile.

    Thanks Rob. Tried it. Nope.

i have win 11 harry and i first pressed the buy button on steam, and then install... and the game launched. then had to manual put in a 1.7 version of the iw3mp.exe and it worked fine

  8. I know the game will run on Win11. Lots of people who updated from Win10 had no problem. Is that what you did? Apparently, the issues occur when you try to install it either from the disc, or, Steam. I first tried my original CD. It begins the install after I give it my key. But then it hangs on "finding components." So I bought it from steam and downloaded the game and it installed and launches the single game. But if you switch to multiplayer, it does not allow you to create an online profile.

I've copied a profile from my Win10 install with no luck. I crashed the game and then restarted in safe mode which someone said would allow you to put in a profile, with no luck. I launched it as administrator; no luck.

Baron: you said my steam username would be my ingame name. I tried to use that as my profile name but that didn't work. I know it works. But I don't see a fix for this and I can't find one online.

Ghost: Did you upgrade to Win11 from 10? If you installed the game on Win11, how in hell did you do it? Did you have these problems?

    Thanks...

    Harry
