(One in a series of questions that history's smartest people couldn't answer. But then, nobody asked the Idiots...) Today's question: Does a fish know it's wet?

An elderly lady decided to give herself a big treat for her significant birthday by staying overnight in one of London's most expensive hotels. When she checked out next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for £250.00. She exploded and demanded to know why the charge was so high. "It's a nice hotel but the rooms certainly aren't worth £250.00 for just an overnight stop without even breakfast." The clerk told her that £250.00 is the 'standard rate' so she insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and forewarned by the desk clerk announced: "The hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference centre which are available for use." 'But I didn't use them," she said. ''Well, they are here, and you could have," explained the Manager. He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which the hotel is famous. "We have the best entertainers from Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen performing here," the Manager said. "But I didn't go to any of those shows," she said. "Well, we have them, and you could have," the Manager replied. No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, "But I didn't use it!" The Manager was unmoved, so she decided to pay, wrote a cheque and gave it to the Manager. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the cheque. "But madam, this cheque is only made out for £50.00." ''That's correct. I charged you £200.00 for sleeping with me," she replied. "But I didn't!" exclaims the very surprised Manager. "Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have."

Moose, bear, deer? Nope. If it isn't stamped USDA inspected, I don't eat it. Mrs. Weezer, on the other hand, was raised in a household where they ate whatever they could shoot or catch. They would trap muskrat and sell the fur - basement would be full of stretchers. But they'd freeze the meat and once a year, have a muskrat "feast." I would stay home for that one - the smell of it cooking nauseated me. (Tastes just like chicken, she'd tell me.)

A suggestion for the Powers That Be: We've got a computer help forum, but what think of adding another forum, maybe call it Members In Need or some such, where XI members can place requests for anything they need, be it a computer part to a leaky faucet (no requests for monetary assistance may be posted there.) Others can check this occasionally to see if they can help.

I have an EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked GPU, 896MB GDDR3 SDRAM, new in the box, that I'd like to donate to an XI member who can really use it. Question is, how to do it. - This could be a prize for a tourney, but that doesn't ensure that it goes to someone who really needs it. - I could ask folks to add their names to a thread and just pull a name out of the hat. But similarly, it may end up with someone who may just end up selling it, thus depriving a member who could really use this card. So I'm looking for suggestions on how to do this without a lot of fuss. Any ideas?

God, it's been years. I had forgotten about meat pie. My grandmother used to make that (from Montreal area originally) only there was no veal, just pork and beef, and she would boil potatoes, cool them, them cut them into small pieces and put in the pie. It also had a sort of gravy; can't remember how she did that; and she also put peas in it.

An argument in support of there being a God is that cows exist. Because there's just no way something that tastes that good could have occurred naturally. Otherwise, I eat very little that comes from the sea. My approach there is that it took us billions of years to crawl out of the ocean where we had to eat everything else in it, and I'm in no hurry to return to that diet.

I'm right there with ya on the Asian beauties, though I also have a fondness for redheads. But at my age, though the mind is willing, the flesh is weak, so to speak.

Shut down your computer and let it sit 15 minutes. Then reboot it. You may have to repeat this. This has worked for me. Again, I think there's a memory leak depending on your vid card.
