  1. Last evening, Yojimbo. As much as I like A Fistful of Dollars its very often tough to beat the original.
  2. Back in those days, if they only knew where Meathead was going with his career in the future.
  3. Isnt that 21? Unless its a special form of BJ and aces are only worth 1. 11+5+2+3
  4. Since HDD tech is not something I keep up on, I never heard of SMR before. The couple reads I found about what it is and how it works were quite enlightening. I need a USB drive, that I planned to hook up to my NAS, just as extra storage to keep stuff for backup that I wouldnt access that much. My NAS is pretty full and the plan is to offload some less essential BD backups or large archives. For example all my game development and modeling/asset files are much more important than a backup of Star Wars. However still easily accessible when needed as opposed to having to keep it hooked up to my PC all the time sitting on my desk. So in the end, its likely not really an issue for that purpose. However the NAS itself does have two 4TB red drives that are on the list that does use SMR. It seems they are no longer on the Synology list of compatible drives. They are over three years old now and probably bought around the time WD started to. While their usage is probably just average it is not particularly encouraging. It seems to be the usual on consumer level drives these days as well. So when the day comes that I need to replace one of my PC drives it will be something to keep in mind. Newegg does list that info for those that it knows about. Seagate has an official page. WD has some info on a blog post and consumer relations email responses. I will likely get bigger NAS drives this year anyway. So I could just go for the more expensive models that use the reliable traditional methods. But their extra expense would have to be kept in mind for budgeting that I didnt plan on. https://www.newegg.com/Hard-Drives/Category/ID-15 https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/cmr-smr-list/ https://nascompares.com/2020/04/16/your-wd-red-nas-hard-drives-might-be-using-smr-what-you-need-to-know/
  5. Lets see at this moment in time... Just watched the 6-part Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy with Alec Guinness. The new movie version was good also, but in comparison it lacked depth due to its shorter runtime. Also Smileys People. Finished the first season of Heroes. Saw seasons 1 and 2 many years ago but not the others. Much more entertaining than any of the Avengers or X-Men movies. Steins Gate. Great anime show with fun characters. The first couple of episodes of Foundation. Batman Beyond Red Dwarf. Which I havent seen since it first came to America on PBS many many years ago. Havent seen the latest incarnation of The Doctor, and only a couple with Capaldi. One of these days I will tune in Boba Fett. If you havent seen it yet, for Firefly also watch Serenity after completing the show. River kicks a lot of ass.
  6. Is it a bad thing if you can sing along and know all the words to Kyles Mom Is A Bitch?
  7. Thats the Politically Correct version. Its known as Last Man Standing.
  8. Well, none of the above. I know who he is (though I cant say I am a fan of his music). I know he is still alive. And I know what Spotify is... but I dont use it. That said, his little anti-Joe action accomplished its goal. Positive or negative, he got you to post something about it. So perhaps that is the joke.
  9. Ah the days when KSJO was a rock station. I remember those morning shows from back in school.
  10. Its unfortunate that thieves seem to think they are entitled to steal. And when they get caught? Shame on those that caught them. How dare they interfere. I guess it depends on whether or not you created something.
  11. I prefer not to pirate. A lot of time and money goes into creating it all and the people that made it should benefit from their work. Only shady things I have downloaded in recent memory are mame/emulator related and the occasional fan-subbed anime. Also a couple old shows unavailable on the usual streaming services. However they were available on dvd/bd. $15 a month (+tax) for 8-9 dvd's isnt a bad deal really. You just dont get nearly as much for your money compared to other options and its a letdown from what NF once was. Got HBO Max on a $12 a month discount deal anyways and it does have a lot to offer. I will probably start with GoT, which I never got past season 3 or 4 back in the day. That and Justice League redux of course but at 4+ hours I have to plan ahead for that one. edit: Went through the nf queue that I threw together. Funny enough %60 of it was on HBO. Strictly speaking, maybe that means monthly BD rental services really are going the way of the dodo bird as many have predicted.
  12. Been a long time since I had the Netflix BD service. At the time it was the 2-at-a-time plan. If I kept up on it I could get two deliveries a week (four discs). But it got to the point where I was doing streaming much more than the bd's so I cancelled it. So... tried it again. There are just too many things that I cant get otherwise. I currently have NF/prime/hulu/apple+/Crunchyroll. A lot of stuff available but a lot of stuff none of them have. Same 2-at-a-time plan. However so far no matter how much I try to keep up... including direct drop offs at my local PO... its almost always only one delivery a week. Same day shipment is rare. A higher price compared to then for 1/2 the service. Needless to say I am highly disappointed in them and will likely be dropping it again soon if that does not change. Instead I am considering putting the same money into HBO Max. It doesnt have the same catalog as the blurays but still has a lot to offer. Just a shame that while streaming was touted as the great media content delivery method of the future its catalog is still pretty limited and less reliable compared to traditional media. Oh and the escape from advertisements wont be around forever and the writing is on the wall. Even if you pay for no-ads they are still there in an ever growing number of cases because the content owners demand it as a condition of streaming rights.
  13. Call it karma. But later they caught the guy. Sent him to jail. And he was then killed by another inmate. https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2021/mar/11/accused-admits-killing-2-people/
  14. Keep sticking to the usual dumb right wing talking point if it makes you feel better. You also seem to have no faith in the American worker. Government money over earning a living. And of course this $600 doesnt pay for decent health care benefits and such either. Gotta work to get those.
  15. Never got the chance to see the Blue Angels except from afar over the SF bay.
  16. Wouldnt surprise me if it were true. Again.
  17. Is there some new loony tunes show out? Looks pretty modern.
  18. I will second getting 7zip. Been using it for years and never looked back.
  19. Since those were all in the spirit of very dark humor... "Why the (@*# is our plane turning around?" - unknown, 9/11/2001. and for Ted... "Anybody that bet money on Donald Trump becoming president is a (@*$ing idiot!" - any democrat, Nov 3rd 2020.
  20. Sounds like Ted Strykers drinking problem.
  21. Except that while you can change your opinion, you cant change your asshole. Well, not without surgery.
  22. Yes, but grown adult 'what' exactly? You could be a young adolescent lemming that believes conspiracy theories, or a grown adult lemming, but either way you're still a lemming. So, dont be a lemming because of peer pressure. And these days, with the internet and places like bitchute, they can be relentless.
  23. Its that way in all of them, to one degree or another. Another interesting fact is that we all throw unused or otherwise expired full strength drugs down the toilet. As we are told to do. However compared to so much else in the waste water these concentrations are so low as to not be dangerous... relatively speaking. But its also cumulative so who knows what happens in 20 years. Still. Its a reminder of all the shit we put into our bodies to keep us all going instead of dying from things we all take for granted these days. Remove all the drugs from distribution, no blood pressure meds etc, and average live expectancy might drop 20 years. Cost-benefit, as usual. But maybe that would be a good thing. See it drop from just a hair under 80 (in the US) down to 60 and it would be a pretty big sea change. How many here, on average, would now be dead or close to it. No 70+ year old presidents for example. Such as the last two. Just something to make you go 'hmmmm'.
