Ugh. international phone caller scams I think. Just got one at 1:30am. Its one of those late evenings for me so the ring didnt wake me up. But I dont remember ever getting a call that late before so it did raise concerns. Didnt pick it up and let it go to the answering machine.
Got one earlier in the day and picked it up by accident. Only recently got caller ID and didnt recognize it as an international call. But easily could tell it was a scammer call after I said 'hello' once and it was static on the line with 'hello hello hello' in an accented voice. So just hung up.
I assume picking up on such a call isnt going to be charged to me. Only if I placed one. And it seems from what I read Comcast wont allow me to block incoming international calls. Which sucks balls. When I made a quick phone call and explained the situation the csr (India) gave me the runaround about 'system upgrades'. Yea right.
Anyways, I suppose the only option for a landline is to pick up a phone blocker. Bookmarked a couple to check out tomorrow. But does anyone use one? How well does it work? In addition to blocking all international I may want to block all area codes except ones where I know people or if I know people will be on a vacation somewhere, for emergencies.
Things just get worse and worse for us all. One of the latest, the usual 'can you hear me' robocalls (they dont ask for you by name) want you to say 'yes' so they can record you. Then, when they charge you for something they will try and use that to 'prove' you agreed to something. So now, if its someone you dont know, dont ever say the word 'yes'. Sometimes the world is just too depressing because there isnt enough help from the powers that be for us to deal with it.
