  1. Sammy, we didn't have Ritalin then. We had parents. They taught us right from wrong, and they didn't put up with our attempts at ADD. Damn, you stepped out of line, you got put right back in, and discipline ruled. No excuses. Teachers ruled their classrooms, and Principles ruled their schools. No f-ing bullshit allowed. We were there to learn, and given the tools to reason and think for ourselves. Today, it's all crap, political correctness, and agenda driven nonsense. All at the taxpayers expense. Back in the day, every house had guns, because every home had a veteran father who brought weapons back from the war. Nobody got shot, because only cowards didn't fight with their wits or their fists. Sad and sorry excuses from the left won't solve today's issues. They are the major part of the problem because people don't change. Ever. Read history, you'll be amazed at what you'll find. We did.
  2. Happy Birthday Mekketom, little late, just got home tonight. Hope you had a wonderful day!
  3. Linux & gaming doesn't work. If you have massive memory & a killer video card, running windows under wine is an option, but a poor one. Keep a windows rig just for DirectX, and Linux for the stuff you care about. Trying to do both on the same machine......best bet is to dual boot.
  4. Sheet, we were followed in Soho until we got under a light. in Leicester had to step around the folks pissing against the walls. And this in the city. Might as well been in Chicago. Dunno about the savages t'up north.
  5. Lol, hxtr, have you ever read a book called Babel 17? Science fiction, and it dealt with an assassin that only understood a machine language that had no "I" or "me". There was no refusal of commands, because there was no identification of self, therefore no concept of "no, I won't do that". Reminds me of an interview with German troops at the onset of WW2 during the invasion of Poland. "Why?" they were asked, and "Wir mussen" was the answer. Scary.
  6. Happy Birthday Pain, you idiot! Have a grand day and a marvelous time!
  7. Here's to dolphin and her memory on her birthday. Take care of yourself RIP.
  8. Happy Birthday Fire! Have a wonderful day!
  9. Hey Sherm, Happy Birthday! Have a good one!
  10. Happy Birthday Woody! Have a great day!
  11. Happy Birthday Trekvinger, have a great day!
  12. @@Leadfinger lol, no Lead, the "they" I'm talking about are the folks at the observatory, or space center taking in the data. What you're looking for isn't a needle in a haystack. More like a needle moving across Australia. However, if you spotted something worth seeing, and can guesstimate a course, you could track a future intersection and be waiting with instruments ready. Lot easier doing that than just randomly scanning the heavens. Extra bonus if the objects you're looking for give off radio signatures or have a temperature variance.
  13. lol Joe, Our "hope & change" turned out to be more like "Hopelessly the Same". Careful what you wish for, you'll probably get it.
  14. Happy Birthday Dean! Have a great day!
  15. Yep, hope they got enough information from that dimming event to plot possible courses for the "objects". Gas giants give off a thermal signature, along with radio emission, although that can be faint in the lower bandwiths. If you could estimate speed & course, you could plot an intercept with a variety of tools, might even predict another dimming event as they pass another star system.
  16. Pete got his wish! He always wanted to share the wealth, now the doors are wide open. Want some Arabs? We have plenty to send over, we'll share our ISIS resettlement bounty with you. You'll get used to losing whole neighborhoods to sharia law, won't even notice. You'll love the new borrow, tax, & spend plans, they're great! You'll get used to poverty too, because that's the new wealthy. Ahhh, the joy of it.
  17. Don't forget Yvonne Craig! RIP Yvonne, you were such a cute Batgirl too.
  18. Another TP video that made MTV famous. Loved the chick & her eyebrow expressions.
  19. Another guess (and we're entitled to guess) is there is no law against large gas giants collecting their harems of planets & asteroids. These structures would not be visible, because they would not be orbiting a light emitting star system. It just might be that such a collection passed across our field of view, at a speed relative to earth's' rotation, and our own solar system's rotation, to provide the dimming effect that was recorded. That in itself would be cool, because it might boost interest in looking at locations in the heavens that aren't providing direct illumination. That would be a far more plausible explanation for missing mass in the universe vs. the dark matter argument. BTW, I think the dark matter issue is better explained by different dimensions, beyond our comprehension, causing events that we can't explain. Grant money, again. I also think our mathematics are inherently flawed, due to the fact it takes pages of calculations to describe simple reactions in physics. If our mathematics were precise, a simple event would easily be described.
  20. Mmmmm, nothing like a Jake's Poorhouse Special. Full pound of beef, combinations of cheese, tomatoes, lettuces, and whatever you can dream up to fill your burger buns. Tray full of tries, and a yard long list of tap drafts. Drool on England, you can have your whitefish & chips.
  21. I'll agree, and I'm just as guilty. I don't believe it's alien artifacts either, but it sure beats politics for a topic of discussion. The slight dimming of a star could mean any number of hypothesis. Could be a collision of planetary objects & the debris field passing across that particular star. Don't know, but it's worth a glance. Too bad sensationalism & grant money takes precedence over actual science anymore, but hey.....phd's gotta pay bills too.
  22. Waiting for the clock to wind down, listening to Little Steven's underground garage.
  23. Happy Birthday Harry!
  24. All too true. As with most events witnessed in the cosmos, it's not a question of "what" is seen, but "when" it's seen. Something that's 1400 light years away is also that many years in the past. If you could snapshot a moment in the universe, and then instantly travel around to view objects, their actual positions and conditions would be radically different than what you observed from Earth's vantage point. Does make for speculation though.
