OK, Camaro is a PONY CAR the whole genre was defined by the MUSTANG! The CAMARO and the BARRACUDA were originally afterthought answers to FORD's very successful challenge to the marketplace.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."[2] A large V8 engine is fitted in a 2-door, rear wheel drive, family-style mid-size or full-size car designed for four or more passengers.

Muscle cars were/are things like the Pontiac GTO, Ford Torino GT and Dodge Charger R/T. Seriously get your facts straight. To avoid confusion let me just post a link to wikipedia:

After thoughts?? hmmm maybe ,But being first doesn't mean it was the best. Chevy and Dodge products were actually a better product from the get go.You couldn't beat a Mopar in the quarter mile and the camaro was one of the best handling cars and had a lot more room...

I'm kinda partial to the 1970-early 73 split bumper Camaro.

Like this gem.

70-camaro-ss.jpg

Have to agree. The split bumpers are the best. My brother (few years older) had one (Rally Sport) with the LT1 350 and Doug Nash 4 speed tranny and a 411 rear end, That was 1977. After a year he yanked the motor out and bored it out and replaced the cams, put on headers (cherry bomb exhausts), and other performance parts. Thing would smoke the tires 1st and 2nd with Micky Thompson M50's on the back and tracktion bars. Alot of feathering the pedal to control it. Some dumb ass hit it in the side a year later after the build and it was total loss. He bought a Firebird after that. Man the Camero was fast. Alot of good times in it
