A Solid Iron core that's not molten happens when it has less mass like a Large Asteroid...? It is possible for Plate Tectonics even on Pluto especially with that large moon tugging on it.... Without a molten core, plate tectonics is impossible. hxtr 1

Look how smooth this area is. No craters or very few. I was reading and because of this.... all this area is relatively new or a young surface. Otherwise it would be covered in craters.Pluto's surface is very active... I bet holds some kind of life in warmth of her wet belly.

I was watching NASA TV last night. They say Pluto has a molten core and is the reason the ice is so flat in the heart area. Heat raising from the inside causing the gases to raise to the surface. I think they are going to make one of Plutos Moons a planet as well.

I don't get that ? I think he means the center of mass, is the Heaviest Element on any Planet which is what the Moon of that planet revolves around. Any Moon is drawn and held by the Gravity of the Host Planet's Mass. So any Planet and it's Moon is it's own little system and it's Total Mass is counted as One.... hxtr and Astronomer 2 Awards

I don't get that ? The Moon and Earth are gravitationally bound. Earth has a much larger mass, so the center of mass, or barycenter is not in space between the two objects, as would be the case if they had similar masses. It's within the space occupied by the Earth. The Barycenter is the point around which both objects orbit. Thats why we have stable seasons. Perhaps one day the Moon will be gone (due to tides pull back effect) and Earths axis will tilt up to 90° or the Moon stays in orbit and will stop the Earth from rotating - both szenarios will make live impossilbe. I just can't remember if thats before the sun goes red giant or after Anyway. As I understood the interpretation of Pluto's surface fotos, because there are mountains folded up there must be some sort of plate tectonic going on. As mentioned before it's a sound assumption that the gravitational pull of Pluto's moon causes friction and is combined with the heat procuced by radioactive decay of heavy elements heating up the "planet" inside. Same happens for example with the Saturn moon Enceladus where the pull is heating the moon so much that the moon is full of geysirs shooting boiling hot water into space.
