  1. Good news, Bush'! Wishing you and the misses all the best for a continuing recovery. Those chairs are great and provide an important degree of independence - what a superb deal!
  2. Just got this recipe in a newsletter from the UK German National Tourist Office and reproduce it here for those that want to give it a try. Zum Wohl! Recipe: Beer Punch Summer time is punch time – or asyou call it in German, Bowlezeit. Here’s a nice recipe with Germany’s nationalbeverage – beer. It’s simple and it’s delicious. For 4 servings take 500 gstrawberries, 1 lime, 5 spoonfuls of lime syrup, 3 spoonfuls of sugar, 750 mldry sparkling wine, and 1.5 l beer. Wash and cut the strawberries, do the samewith the lime, mix it with the syrup, sugar and sparkling wine, leave for halfan hour and then slowly pour the beer into the mixture. Enjoy!
  3. deerejon or complie a list of abusers and 1 day ban or something to make a point... You may end up with a list of old men with weak bladders...
  4. I'll raise a glass to the west, today, to drink to your health! Have a very Happy Birthday, my friend!
  5. Sonovabich English armies started wearing redcoats under Oliver Cromwells new model army at least 50 years before any act of union...English not British True but in the context of war on the ground vs the French, we are looking at late 18th-early 19th Century so the army was British rather than English.
  6. chris4874 act of union 1707 True!
  7. (Tried to embed this but failed so the video is accessible on the link below.) http://www.theveteranssite.com/clickToGive/vet/article/Oompa-Loompa-Army429
  8. (With apologies to Olive, Yop, Frenchi et mes autres copains francais du clan!!!) During the recent royalwedding, the millions around the world saw that Prince William chose to wear auniform that included the famous British "red coat." Many people haveasked, "why did the British wear red coats in battle?" A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, theFrench captured a British Colonel. They took him to their headquarters, and the French General began to question him. Finally, as an afterthought, the French General asked, "Why do you Britishofficers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easiertargets for us to shoot at?" In his casual, matter-of-fact, way, the officer informed the General that thereason British officers wear red coats is so that if they are shot, the bloodwon't show, and the men they are leading won't panic. And that is why, from that day forward, all French Army officers wear browntrousers.
  9. I reckon it must have been use of the "sausages in pocket" perk that caused these dogs to go for the frozen guy! LMAO!
  10. Welcome, Thor435! I hear your name most times I play freezetag!
  11. Happy birthday to you, Ph4nt0m!
  12. BBC News - the least likely to be made up (they don't have newspapers to sell). From there I get my weather fix (we limeys are obsessed with what the sky will do in the next five days and we aren't even all farmers!) and my link to the sports. Facebook opens on another browser tab. This is important so I can keep my friends bored from day to day with things I think are interesting but in which they have absolutely no interest whatsoever. I figure that if they are real friends they know me well enough and have learnt to put up with my irritating habits... If my number of Facebook friends dwindles then I shall end up posting to myself which is nothing new as I talk to myself all the time and rarely have a disagreement. Life must be a real bitch if one is truly sane...
  13. Olive And like in the real life Europe is dangerously sliding into a dark and deep hole C'est la vérité et la France est plus proche que l'Angleterre, hein?
  14. This great palace is a magnet for tourists and loved by those of us loyal to Her Most Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Indeed, I regret the fact that the traitorous and disloyal are no longer incarcerated in its it damp and uncomfortable confines! Several recent politicians would have qualified in earlier days for this accommodation, I am sure! However, there is nothing better than a guided tour and this sequence of videos provides just that. It is delivered with the knowledge and dark humour of a Yeoman Warder (a retired sergeant major of the British Army invited to join the Queen's personal bodyguard). So, if you'd like to replace Hollywood "history" with the real thing, do view. I laughed several times, personally! Enjoy!
  15. For all those LEOs out there, this is how the job used to be done across England till the politicians interfered!
  16. The reviews have been tough on this game so is it really worth the money? I was going to get it but so many writers have criticised it, I don't know... Here's just one example of the bad press it is getting: http://www.reghardware.com/2011/06/14/games_review_duke_nukem_forever/
  17. Good news! Will deliver the special "welcome back package" next time on the battlefield (does the sound card do good explosions? ).
  18. This report states that 2% of British armed forces are suffering mental illness - 4000 people. There's only so much horror that a person can soak up. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-13672770
  19. Gruesome but the photo has been around a very long time... http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/splinter.asp (Edit: corrected typo)
  20. A fine selection of photographs, well presented, as always, Olive! Thank you for sharing those views of your visits. The fields of white crosses are always very moving. After encountering those in Flanders, I formed the opinion that, on entering office, all politicians should have to make a visit to see close-up the potential effect of their decisions. I don't believe many would be so keen to wage war afterwards. Seeing them always reminds me of the young men who were denied the life and experiences I have enjoyed through their sacrifices.
  21. I was at the gym earlier and asked the trainer what machine I would need to be seen using to impress the good looking blonde. He said, "The ATM, you fat bastard !!!!"
  22. I'm not paranoid, but you know what they say...
