The night before the burial of her husband 2nd Lt. James Cathey of the United States Marine Corps, killed in Iraq, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of "Cat", and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept.
"I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it" she said.
"I think that's what he would have wanted".

-Not sure what is more honorable: Being married to this faithful wife to the end or the Marine standing next to the casket watching over them both.

NASA funding has been slashed since the 1960's when they practically had a blank check to do whatever they wanted. The fact that they can still pull off these amazing scientific feats with very limited resources just proves that American ingenuity can do damn near anything regardless of how little they have to work with. And yes, 2.5 billion to put a one ton rover on Mars seems reasonable when you considered the average cost of each shuttle flight was 1.5 billion and there were a lot of them.

Making sure our economy is in a healthy state so people don't go hungry is the job of government. They've had unlimited funds for the last 100+ years, and not only have they squandered it all, they're now borrowing money to squander in amounts too high to ever pay back. If the government had much less to spend and was held accountable for every dime, our country would run much more smoothly. Our government is like some spoiled brat billionaire that has spent all of his company's money, and is now embezzling from the company investors to maintain his lifestyle. We need term limits on members of both houses, much more accurate accounting and no lifetime pensions/medical for retired house members. Then you would see people who were interested in true public service running for office instead of people only interested in gaining wealth and power.

If only I were king, a fixed percentage of GDP would be allocated to R&D which pays for itself many, many times over in advancing technology and the human condition. And it is a small sum, indeed, when compared to the hundreds of billions flushed down the Obama toilet but as well by most administrations since FDR.

If your kids are hungry, they should be put in foster homes where they can be properly cared for. Where in hell did this notion come from that it's up to those who pay taxes (only about half the country) to feed your kids, much less clothe them or care for them in any other way. The ONLY thing children are guaranteed in the constitution is an education - and that means it's offered to them and if they don't wish to make use of it, so be it. We would have colonies on Mars by now if we hadn't pissed away trillions of dollars on liberal bullshit over the past 50 years. That's the real shame!!!

What happened in the theater in Colorado was beyond horrible and we all sympathize with the families of the innocents murdered by a deranged gunman. What a shame someone in the audience wasn't armed.

But I cringed at this story last Friday morning for another reason. It meant that I would have to shut down my access to news for the next several days - or longer. I'm a news junkie and need my daily fix but I cannot stomach TV news when an event such as this goes down.

You know in five minutes all you need to know about what happened. And anything new to the story takes but a minute or two to report. Yet, we are subjected to the same thing, the same reporting, the same images, the same video, the same story, over and over and over and over again, hour after hour, day after day, ad naseum.

It's always the same approach. Once the basic facts are reported, the news outlets turn to the so-called "human" side of the story. They interview people who almost got shot. They ask them how it "felt" looking down the end of a rifle - how the fuck do they think it felt?

Then they start digging into the personal lives of the victims - people we don't know - and by so doing they intrude on the horrible suffering these families are trying to cope with and bradcast that crap every hour of the day. They apparently think we want to know the stories of these victims. I don't want to know their story, any more than I want to know the story of the hundreds of other daily victims of senseless crime.

It's three days later and here are today's headlines:

    - Obama: "Words are... inadequate."
    - Tributes to the victims
    - Survivor: Suspect's boot at my head
    - Suspect a study in contrasts.
    - Daughter: Is daddy still going to come?
    - Suspect spooked gun range manager
    - I didn't think we would get out alive
    - Suspect silent as he heads to court
    - Shooter took Vicodin before attack
    - 13-year-old tried to save life of 6-year-old
    - Batman items found in suspect's home.

Give me a freakin' break and STFU already. I don't wish to appear heartless - matter of fact, I'm anything but. But just tell me what happened and then get on with what else is going on in the world.

    Or maybe it's just me...??

Good question. I think I would let it play out. I don't like the idea of a government official having life or death decisions in their hands. But it does pose a real dilemma. Makes me question whether it's ok to quarantine the uninfected with the infected if an outbreak of Ebola occurred in the States.

Europe has been invaded and many parts destroyed twice in the last 100 years. The US is coming up on 236 years and has never been occupied by another country since Britain tried in 1812 and was sent home with their tails between their legs by our mostly civilian and volunteer army. Whatever we've been doing, I'm perfectly happy with it. We are the most powerful country in the world and a model for many, which is why people try to cross our borders illegally to get here and often succeed. They want what the rest of us have. Freedom of speech, freedom from oppression and freedom from our own government deciding what is and isn't best for our well being. Most importantly we have the freedom to shoot some punk-ass mother fucker that wants to take what we have worked so hard for.

CHKN, it is important to understand that in our country the "right to bear arms" is protected by the second amendment in our Constitution and I quote:

The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights.

The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America.

The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in eleven states. It went into effect on March 4, 1789[1]. The first ten constitutional amendments ratified by three-fourths of the states in 1791 are known as the Bill of Rights.

This is something held sacred in our country and has been questioned in courts multiple times but never changed. It has always been upheld in court as one of our basic rights as citizens of the United Stated.

Neither the Federal, State or Local Governments can draft laws that violate any of our rights as protected in our Constitution. Many have tried, all have failed.

You would need to understand the importance and basis of the United States Constitution to fully appreciate the importance of this document. You simply cannot draft a law that infringes on our rights. It is very difficult to amend or make changes to our Bill of Rights,

Our Constitution and Bill of Rights has served this country well and is well worth protecting.

    History lesson over.

I have instructed my oldest kids (14, 13 & 10) all about gun "safety." I teach them how the gun works, how to load and unload it, how to put it on safety, how to carry it properly and even how to clean it. They are also instructed that if they ever point a gun at someone it better be to shoot to kill. I encourage them to aim for the head.... and empty both magazines.

Really!...Really!...Really!...Really! Teach kids to not open the door! I mean REALLY! Call the emergency number...5 minutes away minimum. The FRAKKING STRANGERS/BADGUYS were kicking in the front door! The kid should have went up to this guy and put a bullet in him execution style. Then say to the police when they showed up, He kept moving for his gun so I had to make sure he could not harm me or my sisters! Bad guys are going to have guns. Bad guys are going to do bad things.... Do you really think that a bad guy is going to worry whether or not the police might be called! I mean REALLY! REALLY!...REALLY!

A few months ago in my apartment complex there was a bad guy who walked into my neighbors apartment. It was late at night, people sleeping, little kids. When I heard the commotion, I came out with my pistol and the neighbors thanked me for responding so quickly. The police caught the guy 15 minutes later. I said it is a good thing that he did not come into my home. He would be DEAD! In case you haven't figured it out I am not a politically correct pansy ass. I will shoot bad guys dead any time and every time. They try and hurt me or my family and I will unload all 3 clips into them! The grand jury would ask me why I shot 45 rounds into him and I would say it wasn't 60 because I only had 3 clips.

Point being, bad guys deserve death and AMEN to this kid for doing what was necessary.
